Confusion About Pushing the Body Image Envelope
Over the past month or so I have been pushing myself to get over my issues with body image...that is to finally see what others see in me. One of the ways I have been doing that is to wear clothes that actually fit and aren't too warm when I exercise. On days below 70 degrees I wear a tee shirt when I walk at lunch time and on days over 70 degrees I wear a sleeveless shirt as shown in this crappy cell phone photo I took of my sweating self last week. At work I change before my walks and then change back into a regular shirt after I cool down for 20 minutes or so. I have observed people as I walk by to see if they look at me or if they avert their eyes. Some look more than others, but I haven't noticed anyone averting their eyes with dismay, so I must look somewhat normal to the people I walk past.
However, people at work must be unaccustomed to seeing me in anything but a loose fitting, button down shirt because I have gotten a number of strange looks and comments, even when I am sitting in my office, cooling down and minding my own business. One of my colleagues said I send out a completely different physical vibe when I wear my exercise shirts. I have seen some of my colleagues out running in much more revealing attire than this sleeveless shirt, so I am confused about what they meant. I feel better physically and I am somewhat more confident than I used to be, but I got the impression that the "different physical vibe" comment wasn't exactly an endorsement of my appearance. Perhaps their comment was innocuous or implied that I should change back into a regular shirt before I go back to my office, but it has me befuddled. I t hink I look like a normal guy in this picture (never mind what goes on in my head). What do you think?

In my opinion, they are just not used to the 'new' you... and don't know how to react. You truly DO send out a new vibe... one of growing confidence.
IMHO, I think anyone telling you that you're putting off a different physical vibe is simply stating a fact.
Would you have gone out in that tank top 150 pounds ago? NO, probably not. So through no particular effort, you ARE putting out a different vibe. One that relays a newfound confidence in yourself, or at least a lesser degree of fear or inhabition. You are not the same person you were a year ago.
Nothin' wrong with that!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
