OT: Update on my mom! (long)
on 5/22/09 1:30 am - MN
Thank you for all of your prayers! They have helped immensely and my family and I appreciate it more than I could have share!
My mom's chemo drugs damaged her kidneys to the point that they shut down. Her creatin level was at a 4 on Wednesday evening and went to an 8 on Thursday morning - normal is a 1. All her other numbers were at least double what they were supposed to. They got her hooked up to dialysis last night about 7:00. Her blood pressue kept dropping so they had to stop trying to take the fluid out of the blood and just concentrate on cleaning the blood.
This morning when my dad went into the room at 4:30 she was sitting up and complaining, which means that she really must have been feeling better. They redid her blood work and all the numbers have improved about 50%. We are EVER SO GRATEFUL!!
We are also grateful that the entire family got to the hospital safely, even my nephew from California. We are even more grateful for all of your support and prayers.
If mom's numbers continue to improve she will proceed with her next round of chemo on the 1st. However, they will be switching drugs; the bad side is that the new drug could have other life threatening side effects. We are pretty sure that this journey won't be long, but we are praying that mom makes her three goals this summer:
1. Celebrate her and my dad's 50th anniversary (June 13)
2. See her first great grandchild born (due July 10)
3. See her "adopted" granddaughter (good friends of our family) get married (July 26)
If you're of the praying type, please pray that:
1. She makes her goals
2. The doctors treat her as best they can
3. That we all, including my mom, have the courage to know when enough is enough
4. That she doesn't suffer during this process.
Thanks again! Love you all! You can't imagine how overwhelming the outpouring of love and support is sustaining our family! Please remember to cherish each moment with your family! Time is short!
All my best to you and your family!
Jenn
My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family as you go through this journey. The things you asked for our prayers for are allllllll so important. It sounds like she has the will to meet her goals, and that her docs are working hard to find the right combo for her (just ask me about chemo drugs and side effects)- I truly believe that God is in control and if we let God complete his/her intentions all will work out for the best.
