I'm in the middle of my second week post op, and I need to start eating more protein.  I'm on full liquids now.  I tried unflavored protein powder, and added it into my apple juice (kind of gross), and then I added it into my cream of mushroom soup and TOTALLY RUINED IT!  I hate the idea of protein powder, and the taste of it in my food makes me want to barf!  How can I get my protein in without adding it into my food?

For my first month or so post-op I used the ready made isopure beverages (founda at GNC) they have 40g of protein and help towards your fluid goal too.  I really liked the blue raspberry.  It would take me all morning to drink it- but was a good source that wasn't powdery!!

Good Luck,

Nectar protein powder. It rocks.

I have issues with putting protein powder in foods, always have. This stuff is good in jello, and one of the ways that I fixed it was I filled one of those Nalgene bottles with orange Crystal Lite and then put in a scoop or two of Fuzzy Navel powder - YUM. It doesn't taste funky, you get half of your water for the day AND 20-40g of protein! How can you beat that? Each scoop has 90 calories and 23g of protein. EnjoyHealth.com has a sampler pack that you can try everything and see what you like before committing to POUNDS of it.

I have never really been one to use protein powder actually. If you like milk just up your milk to make up for it. I also eat low fat cheese and low cal yogurt.

Milk - 8g / 1cup
String cheese - 8g / 1stick
Lo cal yogurt - 8g / 1serving

You might have to eat a bit more of these items until you are able to eat meat but it could help w/ the protein intake if you dont like the powders. I have some powder that I add to milk sometimes and it tastes kind of like a vanilla milk shake. If you want we could get together and I can bring some so you can try it. I heard if you buy protein at GNC and you dont like the taste they will return it or exchange it for you. I would double check first though.

GNC will exchange it or return it if you don't like it. I got Strawberry Amp Extreme, tried it once, and it was gross. They let me bring it back and get something else.

I've been using the Amp Whey Extreme from GNC. The chocolate one is really good, tastes like Nestle. The serving size is 3 scoops in 12 oz of water, and it has 60g of protein. I tried the strawberry and it was gross. I took it back and got a vanilla that I haven't tried yet.
