Question for Lap Banders

Hello, I had RNY 4 1/2 yrs ago but my husband is now scheduled for lapband on June 24th.  My question orrrr our question is if you had your surgery lap how long did it take you to feel up to going out and about.   The reason we're asking is he is having his surgery on June 24th and we had a family camping trip planned for the 4th of July weekend and are wondering if we should still plan on going.   We'll be sleeping in cabins not the tent but it's still not your own bed.   Those beds leave a lot to be desired but is better than sleeping on the ground.  I can't seem to get him to come here much so I figured I'd ask.

I say go for it, but plan for your meals big time.  The more you can be up and moving, the better.  Some people return to work after a few days depending on what they do.  Don't push yourself too much, but this could be the best thing for recovery.  Walk, sip, sit in the sun, soak your toes, etc.  You'll be way past the achy gas stage.

I would think he'd be fine to go - there are lifting restrictions though so he'd have to be careful about that. It is major surgery and he'll need to take it easy. It's really important for the band and port to heal into place. And like Paul said, plan the food/liquids carefully.

It took me about 8 days to feel better.

Hi Michelle,

Tell Luke good luck! I heard through the grapevine he was having surgery, just didn't know when. I had my band surgery on a Thursday and felt almost normal by the next Thursday. I even drove to the cities for my 1 week post op appointment. If he takes it easy he should be fine!

OMG - HI STRANGER!  I haven't been on this site in forever and the first day I return I see your smiling face :-)  How is Kevin's little girlfriend doing?  She looks beautiful!  Kevin is a little charmer I tell you - he better not meet her anytime soon ;-)

Anyway, my sister had lap band surgery in February, went home the same day and was taking care of her 5 children (ages 1 to 9) two days later.  She felt great and has been losing steadily ever since.  Of course everyone is different, but your husband's recovery should be relatively quick - as long as he doesn't do any heavy lifting like the other posters mentioned.

Good Luck - I'm going to try to keep coming to this site because I need some help with weight gain.

Hugs!

Kim

Oh my it's sooo good to see you here!!   I often wonder how you're doing.  Sadie is doing great...quite the charmer herself.   She's spoiled but not a brat LOL.    Do you have facebook?   If you do look for me and add me and we could stay in touch that way as well.   My email is [email protected].    I don't always post here much but I always read.   I am not necessarily gaining but barely maintaining and I still would love to lose more.
