Hi everyone! I'm looking to get the ds this fall, and was wondering if any of you out there had Dr. Ikramuddin? I know of a couple of you (my friend list folks) but would like to hear from a few more! What do you think of him & his pluses & minuses?  Trying to set my hubby's mind @ ease by those whove been there/ done that with him.  Thanks!

Although I had an RNY procedure, I can highly recommend Dr. Ikramuddin.  He came very highly recommended to me by another physicians/surgeon at the U of M.  He is very patient, wants things to be 'perfect', and has always taken time to answer all my questions, going so far as to draw me a diagram of my 'unusual' surgical procedure (my anatomy gave him a run for his money!).  His department staff has always been very helpful, and available anytime I had questions.  The surgical residents on his team who followed me post op could not have been better- always treated me with utmost respect (something, as a nurse who worked in a teaching hospital, I did not always see!).  I'd suggest bringing your husband with you to first consultation appointment- will help set his mind at ease if he can meet the doctor and get his questions/concerns addressed up front.

Thank you for sharing your experience!  I myself really think the world of Dr. Ikramuddin, as I've been under his care since last August with the clinical trial I was a part of (now that I've been explanted, we'll see).  It's hard for my husband with his work schedule to find the means to come with me, so he tends to rely upon word of mouth; for him, hearing/ knowing others first hand experiences & that they are doing well now helps him a great deal..  thank you again!

Hey, Tallia!
I'm a patient of Dr. Ikramuddin's partner, Dr. Buchwald.  Just got my DS arranged for August!
Everyone at the U program has been wonderful!  I was originally set up for RNY with the Fairview Southdale program, and switched over to the DS with Dr. B. 3 weeks short of my RNY date!  They made the switch over and insurance process totally seamless and easy, it was great!  I have heard that their vitamin advice isn't totally up to par, so I would suggest looking into other sources for advice.  Vitalady has great info- PM me with an e-mail address if you would like me to send it to you!

I have a few friends who have had Dr I, both RnY and DS patients . . . . they're all doing well.  He's a remarkable surgeon (I'm biased to Dr B being better, but Dr I is good ;) )
