Hi guys last time talking about my dad I promise.....  Yesterday we put him to rest.  Let me tell ya about that......... We left home around 6:15 am and yes with my 2 boys.  What were we thinkin???? Anyways we stopped in Alexandria to eat breakfast and made it to the funeral home around 9:40.  We met with the guys at the funeral home and they told us that my brother and grandma already lft and were going out to the cemetary (which he was getting buried 45 miles from his home town) so they said we could go in their van or we could follow them We chose to follow them because NO ONE wants to listen to my 2 boys fight.  So the van went first then my dad in the hearse, then us.  Well boy oh boy was that hard at first until 30-35 miles down the road the hearse broke down.  Here we are out in the middle of no where and had to wait 15 min to see if it would work again.....in that time I had to pee like you wouldn't believe and i am thinkin should i go on the side should I go behind well I decided I didn't want no one to catch me with my pants down so I waited. Well 15 min passed and we tried it and it worked so we all jumped back into our cars and took off only to go about 1 mile and it broke down again.  Well if you all new my dad this would be funny because he was ALWAYS late for everything he was even late for his own funeral believe it or not.  Anyways we decided that we could either wait for another hearse from another funeral home to come get my dad or we could take the seats outta the van and slide him in back of the van  Well mind you I have to PEE yet so we took the seats outta the van and put my dad in the back of the van...... WOWZERS huh.  Well we made it to the cemetary and and everything went fine.  My brother however didn't shed one single tear and he had a new truck that he drove out there.  Anyways things went well they invited us out to lunch and I had to say no I would not go with my brother........  I feel more at peace now that everything is done.  My dad`went out with a bang just like he would of wanted  too funny.  Thanks for the last 7 months of always listening to me through out his sickness, hospital stay, and death.  I am now comfortable moving on.  GRandma wants me to come vivit I think she is finally seeing him for who he is!!!!!  THANK GOODNESS for that.  Anyways You all have a great day and stay cool it is gonna be a HOT one today.

THANKS<

Marsha-
I am glad you are getting to the point of peace with your father's death.  What an adventure your boys will have to tell!  I have a feeling that will become a much beloved family story and memory of their grandfather.

Have a GREAT day and stay cool!

Marsha - what a difficult day but as I was reading your post I was shaking my head in disbelief that this all happened to you - OMG!  What a story and what a "funny" way to think back about the day.  He went out with a bang that is for sure!  I'm so glad you are at peace and moving on - good for you!  You'll meet again someday!

I'm sorry for the loss of your father.....
I loved your story - certainly a memorable one! I'm glad it was fitting for your dad - a day that can bring you smiles instead of tears.
When my father died (less than 2 years ago) he was working for a funeral home so we joked that this time he was the backseat driver! And the kicker???? Since he was being buried in the Black Hills National Cemetery (3 hours from my hometown), he needed to be driven out and because the funeral home was short a worker (my dad), they asked my brother to drive the hearse! So my brother and nephew drove my dad to his burial. We laughed but also thought it fitting.

I hope you have some good memories of your father.

I'm glad you seem to have found peace in your heart.  No doubt, the "comic relief" of his last ride will stay with you forever - seems strangly uncomfortable, yet comforting to find humor in such a day.

Sending you more hugs, sweetie...
