I was wondering if any of you knew of anyone that had some kittens they wanted to get rid of...I am really looking for a long or medium hair kitten.

Check the Sunday want ads.  Check Craigslist under pets.  Check www.petfinder.org.  You can put in your zip code and any specific qualifers you'd like.  These are from pet shelters.  I have two cats I found through petfinder and they are perfect family members!  Good luck to you!

Please remember a "free" kitten really isn't free. 8 week old kittens need 3 sets of shots, plus their rabies at 16 weeks old. Plus there's the spay or neuter. Please go to your local shelter and adopt a kitten. They should have at least their first set of shots and you will get a free spay/neuter when the kitty is old enough.

Please spay and neuter your pets!

I'd get one from the Humane Society and pay their fee.. that way you know your kitty is spayed/neutered, has gotten its shots, and most importantly~~~ HEALTHY.

Petfinder.com is a good resource too. And the shelters on there do alot of the local kitty adoption days at Petsmart and PetCo.. and those kittens are already fixed and have their shots too.

The fee you pay for the kitten is actually less than the spay or neuter is alone.. Plus you'd have all the other "kitty" shots and visits you need to do with a kitten that are already done at the HS or the shelter/foster home.

This is my department!

PLEASE go to a shelter to get a cat/kitten. The money you will give them for the cat will be less than what you would end up paying for vet costs with a kitten.

May I suggest Crossroads Animal Shelter in Buffalo? It's the best animal shelter in this area - and they, like many, have an abundance of cats.

Farrah is right, they are not free.  I got a kitten from a friend that cost $$ by the time I had shots and spaying done.  We've had her years now and love her to death but there is no such thing as free if you take care of them properly.  You might want to check out Last Hope also they have kittens.  We got our rescue dog from them she's been very healthy.  I also saw a flyer on a board at Starbucks saying a place was having a kitty adoption soon.  I think it was called Rainbow Rescue or something like that.

Definitely go to a shelter.  The Mankato Freepress newspaper actually ran a front-page story on the large number of cats and kittens they have waiting for a home.  We got both of our cats from the shelter and they're wonderful!!
