questions
When I opened up OH today, I thought I had clicked on the Minnesota forum but evidentally I didn't. Anywhoo, I was reading a topic and the gal wrote she wished she'd never had the surgery. I think she is 3-5 weeks out. Did any of you experience this after your surgery, and just needed a healing time? I am scheduled for surgery on Nov. 6 and was wondering if most of you felt this way for a few weeks.
Also, with winter approaching, we play cards on weekends more, and I was wondering, besides fruit and veggies, what can a person eat for snax (usually had chips, pretzels, etc) but will be unable to eat them after surgery- thanks!!

I went through a period when, I didn't regret the surgery, but I missed being able to use food for comfort. I had to relearn how to do things, like when you go to a party and everyone is grazing, what was I going to do?? Then I realized, I didn't have to give up everything, and the few things I did give up, I have learned not to really miss. Yes, you should avoid all the snack things, but you can taste one or two on very rare occassions to remember the taste. Also, you will learn new recipes that others will like as well. Cheese and meat trays would be a great snack, fresh fruit and veggies, beef jerky, bean dips, all are sources of protein that you can bring. Or deviled eggs, just see how you do with mayo first. You don't have to be left out, you will just learn to redo things, and soon you will stop missing things, and start seeing the wonderful results. The first few months the hormones will mess with your mind. That is the most common time for buyers remorse, then after you have been out for a bit, you may go through another period. They are usually short lived.

I for one did have those feelings for a short time. Once I started feeling better and seeing results they faded very quickly. I now wouldn't give it up for anything. As for snacks...try nuts, cheeses, beef jerky, yogurt, cottage cheese, protein shakes. Be careful though and check with your program as to whether they allow snacks because some do not.
You are right......quit reading the negative posts. I do not regret this surgery.... even one day. My life has changed for the better there is no doubt about that. Yours will too.
As for snacks....I eat turkey jerky...I also eat turkey bites from "Old Wisconsin". They are just life beef sticks cut in bite size portions. I can't tell the difference between the turkey and the beef. Turkey has less calories and fat. I also like apple slices w/ peanut butter. Almonds, protein bars (watch the sugar), fresh veggies like cherry or grape tomatoes, baby carrots and popcorn. Jus****ch your quantities. Portion your snacks ahead of time.
