I'm All of a sudden shakey and feel flush and very overheated - IDEAS????

I have had very few problems since WLS.  I've been following the plan fairly well.  I'm very up on my water intake.  I'm not overloading on carbs.  My eating habits have been a little off over the past few days with my trip to Alabama.  But I honestly don't think it has anything to do with that because it has happened about 5 times in the past few weeks before the trip.  I am taking all of my vitamins.

I've had a few incidents of becoming very shakey and feeling like I'm overheated.  I become slightly disoriented.  Its a very strange feeling.  I usually lay down and rest a bit, and it seems to subside.  I can feel it come on.  when I say disoriented, I mean that its harder for me to concentrate or to verbalize what I'm trying to say.  Hard to explain.  I think it may happen when I'm a little tired - so perhaps it has nothing to do with WLS.

What to do?  Should I make a doctors appointment?  Should I call my doctor?  Does it sound like blood sugar problems?  Any ideas?  Just don't know if I should be concerned or if it isn't anything to worry about.  Or if perhaps I should just keep track of how I'm eating and how I'm feeling and see if it relates to being tired????   I'd appreciate any ideas or thoughts about it.

Thx!  Kelly

Definately time to check with your surgeon if it has caused disorientation! Those could be symptoms of a lot of different things, hormones, thyroid, blood sugar, arrythmias, to name a few. Don't mess around with trying to self diagnosis, take it from someone who knows, that is asking for trouble. Best of luck, hopefully it is a quick fix and you are feeling better soon.

Hey Kelly ~

Hope you are feeling better however I agree with the others that you should give your surgeon a call.  It may be time for some blood work..  Hugs..

I have felt like this now and then but assumed it was dumping sysmptoms sometimes I get that way when I have even a tiny bit of sugar,  but sounds like you have a good understanding of what is going in your body that is not likely the cause.  Is it possibly blood pressure related?  High or low?  I also know disorientation is a sign of low B12 but I would think it would have to be really low to experience that and you also sound like your all ok on vitamins.  Hmmm I'm not much help but agree you should call your Dr.  Keep us posted on what you find out.

I agree with the others, you should call your doctor.

It does sound like low blood sugars - that is how I get when my glucose levels get too low.  Hot, yet my skin is cold and I'm sweating like crazy, shakey, disoriented - when I try to talk it sounds like I am drunk, etc.

Let us know what the Dr. says!

hi Kelly
What you are most likey experiencing is a form of hypoglycemia that we post op and large weight loss patients experience. It happens to me on occasion and I can pretty much tell ahead of time it is going to happen. For me it started to happen when I was at goal. My understanding is your pancreas starts to produce to much insulin. I know Ginger had this problem on a more frequent basis and she had to really watch her intake of carbs vs protiens. Myself I get really shaky and need to eat something carby and drink some sports drink ( the only time I eat and drink at the same time and it seems to go away after about a half hour. I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone and it might be an idea to get it checked out further but I will almost guess that is the problem. One thing that triggers it most (believe it or not) is Diet pop and if I drink a bottle and have not eaten anything in a while.  I really feel that stuff is poision and am taking steps to stop it. it is my addiction.
Good luck
Jim
