OT: Why oh Why??

Do I let people get to me?  I am just very frustrated at my job today.  I feel like I have become just an invisible soul that gets everything dumped on to.  Then, following a meeting, 2 people who have nothing to do with the main office decided that they would come in and clean it- because THEY didn't like what it looked like.  It took all of my energy not to just scream and yell and say- GET OUT THIS IS NOT YOUR SPACE!!
The one positive- I didn't go and find something to eat- I just took my water bottle, did what I needed to do and got out of there.
I know I shouldn't let other people control how  feel, and what I do- but these two women just irritated the heck out of me with their holier than though attitudes.

Any advice out there??  Unfortunately, confronting them could lead to the loss of my job as they are higher up the food chain than I am.

Thanks for letting me vent,

Hey Reenie,

I am sorry you are dealing with this. Problems at work can lead to so much stress in our lives. I know what you  mean by having bad coworkers... it can ruin the WHOLE work experience... even ONE person.

Get another job? That's a tough one. Do these women have a boss? If so, turn to him/her perhaps. Otherwise, you could try to confront, but not really "confront"... just point things out.. they might not even (as insane as it sounds) realize what they are doing.

I like the "curious not furious"approach.... act curious and say, "Gosh, this place is so clean already.. there's really not much to do here... why don't you two take a much needed break?" lol.

Good luck though, this is a tough one.

Congrats on not resorting to old habits!   And for coming on this board and venting!  You can't change those 2 people, so just ignore them, as best you can. If they want to clean up the place, let them.  Tomorrow you can put stuff back where you want.

You're doing a good job!!

Thanks Elena and Sue!  I felt much better after I vented, and thought a little more about it.  I talked with my co-worker in the main office (who was just as angry when she came in this morning) and we decided to present a untied front to these 2 women.

Hopefully today will be better!!

I don't have any advise, but good for you grabbing your water and keeping yourself in check- not blurting anything "saucey" out of your mouth.

Krisy-
It was a good things my thoughts can't talk for themselves.  It is also a good thing that I won't use explicatives at work (I work at an elementary school).  I am still kind of fuming and just want to ask the 2 of them "Who died and made you queen?"  I'll keep drinking my water, taking my tylenol and just keep on keeping on.

Also, you never know who might have been breathing down their necks making them find something to do, or maybe one of their bosses made a comment to them that it needed to be cleaned so they just did it. Who knows. Like others have said here, I think the best thing you did is just take your water and have a healthy distraction. There are always going to be people that bug you like this, but like Dr. Joy says, just act "stupid and cheerful"...at least then you are not giving them any ammo against you!
