Low Ferritin level and upcoming surgery

Obviously I am going to check with my doctor tomorrow, but I thought I would check here and see if any of you have experienced this.

Today I got the lab results back from my last check up with the Gastric Bypass Surgeon.  My Ferritin Level is very low...its at an 8.  My Hemoglobin is fine.

I am scheduled for surgery on 10/3 and I wonder if anyone has had surgery when their Ferritin levels are low.

Thoughts?

Mine were very low also for my surgery last year.  I was worried that they would cancel.  Obviously I can only tell you how it worked for me.  They told me it was not a factor and not to worry.  Everything worked out fine and my levels are now normal, but I have had a total rollercoaster with iron...too much, not enough, too much, not enough..etc.  I was told to drop iron supplements, and now I'm back on them.  I was doing phelbotomy treatments (rigerous) for awhile.  I never know.  I have also been diagnosed with hemochromotosis, but before surgery I was low.

Sorry it this is more an answer than you were looking for.  I'm killing time while waiting for someone to come to my office.

Not at all too long of an answer.  I appreciate your response.

My doc said the same thing.  I am still good to go for my plastics next week.  Just taking some Iron pills 2x a day the week before surgery and the week after, then move to 1x a day.

I was just very very worried that things would get cancelled.  Now it looks like I dont have to worry about that one!

I hope your iron ping pong battle settles into a nice smooth ride!
