Carbs just sneak up on you...

My weight loss has been pretty good these past two weeks... I weigh in at WW and I lost 3.6lbs this week and 3.6lbs last week as well....

But one thing I discovered yesterday... that I've been foolishly taking in way more carbs than the 60-80g recommended  by Barb.  I thought I was doing fantastic.... eating yogurt with granola, protein bars once in a while.... well, I picked up the yogurt cup at Byerly's and checked the back -- 52 carbs! WHAT?!!! I had no idea.... how foolish of me not to even check. Today, I was suspicious and looked at the SlimFast bar..... also 40 to 50 something grams of carbs.... holy cow...

So, it's funny how those bad things just sneak up on you.... I am glad I found out sooner than later or I would have been .  I was probably eating somewhere around 100-150g carbs daily... holy cow.  And I had no idea...

They are everywhere and they are the hiding ninja's of the food groups.
Its so second nature for me to read a label before anything hits my mouth.  But it took along time.
Even after the eating like crazy ( upping carbs)  I was back to craving them for about a week after!
They are like a drug.. I swear it.
Good for you for checking.... the point now is you know.. we learn everyday!

Good job!

It IS alarming how many carbs there are in the simplest things!  I have to say, much as I HATE having been diabetic, it sure taught me to read those little labels.

There ARE lower carb options for protein bars, yogurt, just about anything.  And a person's taste buds DO adjust.  When I started drinking coffee, I hated doing both FF and SF - So I'd do one or the other, but eventually switched to FF/SF everything!  So now, when some coffee shop accidentally slips me regular fat, regular syrup latte's, it's like   I can  SOOOO taste it!  NO, I don't dump, I just have developed a taste for the HEALTHIER alternatives!

Elena,

Good catch.....I always look at the back for the nutrition now on everything, sugar, carbs, protein, fat, calories.......It's amazing to me how different yogurt can be on the sugar content, some are at 20g. unbelieveable........

Great job on the WL, hope it keeps going.....You are totally rockin this lapband.......

I dito what Darla said... it takes some time to get the taste for the lighter side of food. But, it's worth it in the end. Good luck with keeping your carbs down.

Hugs,
Lori

Hey great job on the lbs coming off!!
And thanks for the info on how many carbs, I did not know that and was wondering about it. My nut wouldn't give me a straight answer.

Wow, 3.6 LBS two weeks in a row is great! Do you think you're losing more since your last fill? When was it? Are you going to have another?

Better late than never in checking the labels. I don't check sodium often but did today as I have my monthly weigh in at the clinic tomorrow as part of my 6 month supervised attempt, in which I'm confident I gained a pound or two. Trying to watch the sodium today so I don't retain any more fluid than normal. Ugh and so now of course I'm craving salt.

I am not sure why the weight loss is coming... honestly I have been kind of naughty with my intake... but I do have 'perfect' restriction for now... I have an appt tomorrow, but I assume they won't give me a fill and I am fine with that! :-)

Congrats Elena...that is awesome...3.6 two weeks in a row!!

Training ourselves to read labels is something we will have to do forever. So many things are high in carbs.

I am happy for you!!!
