What to expect?
I am still waiting to hear for approval from my insurance company- but in the event I am approved, could someone please tell me what to expect after that. What kind of tests would I need to have before surgery. I realize all places are different, but I would like to get some idea.
thanks so much

Well you're right, in that different programs and insurances put people through different hoops pre-op.
For me, having been with Medica and going through Park Nicollet, I had to have the assessments and tests finished BEFORE my file was sent in for insurance approval. I believe that is probably the more common route. Once I was approved, it was just a matter of meeting my surgeon, setting the date, and having the standard pre-op EKG & such done.
As for what kinds of things happened before I was approved, there was a sleep study (automatic because my BMI was over 50), psych test, PT appointment, bariatric doctor's appointment, and I'm SURE I've already forgotten SOMETHING! Some insurances will require a 3 to 6 month supervised diet, a lot of it depends on your employer's stipulations as well.
Good luck to ya! Let us know how it goes!!!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
You will likely need a mental health evaluation, a number of dietary consults (may depend on your insurance plan-- the U of M requires 3 minimum); all preventive care needs to be up to date -- Pap, mammogram, colonoscopy if over 50, and my group requires cardiology clearance for everyone over 55. In addition to that, you will likely have a couple of pre op appointment with your surgical group, and you will need a pre op History and Physicial with EKG within 7 days of surgery. Good luck!
