The WLS Clinic called - About my Psych results
This will eventually help you to succeed long term on your weight loss journey. If they felt you are a strong emotional eater this will affect your long term success. After two years from the surgery your appetite is back and if you cannot control the emotional eating you could gain all of your weight back. In the long term this will help you succeed at permanent weight loss.
Am in agreement with the pro-therapy responses, having a three year -plus professional relationship( therapy ) with a licensed psychologist( first sought for major dysfunctional abusive family issues, then after GP recommended WLS found out that's her specialty, then, recent attempted healing from co-dependency in a now-ended relationship) plus nine years experience working at three premier HMOs, I clearly see both the psychological and insurance cost-effect stance here (just my humble view point). First, there's slim realistic chance of anyone being able to effectively "fudge: their way through the MMPI, with its several hundred points, where often items are re-worded to ensure honesty. My voice of reason' is saying perhaps the evaluator was calling 'being shy' a form of not being honest? Sorry , if brutal honesty here, is offensive to you--I'm so pro-professional help and am forever grateful for this professional who is (thank heavens) OBJECTIVE. She wants me to succeed, as much as I want the same effect, though it just doesn't happen in one or several appointments. I contribute this to my success at just over two years out, to get "real" advice and guidance. This has been immensely beneficial, as she'd initially brightened my knowledge about the five cross-addictions we may easily replace for our former 'addiction' to food: gambling, shopping, alcohol, smoking, and sex. For how long did many/most of us numb our emotions with overeating...I honestly wish the very best outcome for you! Hugs, Patti
Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

I'm just starting the process but I'm not sure I'll pass the psych eval. I've had depression issues in the past, as recently as early summer. However, I'm on an antidepressant and doing both individual therapy and dialectical behavior therapy. My emotional eating has stopped. My anxiety is undercontrol. My depression is gone. And while the antidepressant has helped with that, it's the skills I've learned in therapy and that I practice every day that has improved my life so much. But since some of this is pretty recent, I think I may be waiting a while to have surgery.
