Back from my one week post op appt.

Hi

I had my one week post op today.  They didnt seem worried about the pain I had in my side. It is much much better today.  They said it could be air, sore from the tools they used. If it gets worse and wont go away, to call.

I am down 20 lbs. since a week before surgery. I have lost 10 this past week ( plus, the 8 I gained in the hospital).
I even got to drag out a pair of capri's that were too tight!

I am on pureed foods for the next 3 weeks. The dietician said many people like to make chili, since it's a high protein meal. But just blend it up before eating. So, I have a pot of that on right now- I am excited to have some real food! I am not really that hungry, but a few bites will be nice. If that goes well, I will freeze a bunch in small amounts.

I started a food journal today. I am making a promise to myself I will work hard at keeping it up!  I am going to track what I ate-calories, sugar content and protien. Then if I have issues that day, I will make comments on the bottom of the page. I need to get 60 g of protein.  I am kind of an odd ball, in that I LOVE canned peas. You know...those mushy ones hehe. So I bought a bunch of those and will over cook then and mush them a bit to see how they go. I noticed they were pretty decent for protein amount.

I am so happy to have a week go by and really be doing so well. I need to promise myself I wont pick at food all day long. I am kind of worried about that. I found myself with a spoon over the chili kettle earlier

Thanks to everyone for your kindness and support. I am very happy I found this website.

If St Cloud coffee is on for this Saturday, I really want to go. I will watch for a post about it.

You are doing great 1 week out, good for you! And I think it's really good that you're AWARE that you're a picker and to watch that you don't do that. I am definately a grazer which I know could pose problems after surgery, like it does for me today. I gotta work on that. I think a food journal and notes at the end of the day sounds like a really good plan. Congrats on your loss thus far!

Don't beat yourself up over standing over the chili kettle - I would chalk that up to being on auto-pilot more than being naughty.  Just catch yourself whenever you can, remind yourself of your NEW habits.  It won't take too many boo-boo's (getting stuck or dumping) and you'll find yourself VERY mindful of those new habits!!!

And if you find yourself picking all day long, that's HEAD hunger.  HABIT.  Make yourself a list of things that you enjoy doing, that are NOT centered on FOOD!  And DO 'EM!  You really shouldn't be hungry at this early out, but your HEAD may not realize that your STOMACH is just fine the way it is!!

And CONGRATS on the capris!!!

Natalie,

Congrat's on your 1 week post-op appt. Sounds like things are going good. Just remember that you can't eat much right away. When I was on pureed I could only eat 1T. per meal and I was FULL. I'm sure it varies person to person......

Yes, St. Cloud coffee is on this Saturday, at 10am. at Caribou coffee by the mall. I'm going to try and be there if I feel good. (Having a surgey Thursday) Hope to meet you then....

Natalie - may I also recommend refried beans with some cheese - yum and high protein and fiber.

also - for tracking may want to check out thedailyplate.com or fitday.com - makes it easier to track.

You are off to a great start!  Best wishes on your journey!

Hi Linda,
I do use fitday. I love that site. But it's not easy for me to hop on alot throughout the day when I am at work. So I figured I will track it in a notebook.  If I have time I can transfer it over to fitday.

My family is having tacos and burritos tomorrow night. I bought a can of refried beans, and figured I would melt a bit of cheese on the top and have that.

They want me to have 60 g of protein a day, but with how little I will be eating, it sure seems impossible.

Nice work! You are off and running. One thing I tried that was yummy too was Campbells bean with Bacon soup pureed and is high protein.

Your new pouch is healing...it takes at least 2 months.
Go slow and treat it with tender loving care.
You'll do great!!!
