I havta say....
I rather feel like my grandson (daughter's toddler) who is my current avatar...
UNHAPPY
that I have not yet gotten a job in my field of geriatric social work. WAH!!!
Pretty soon I WILL be the one on the receiving end of geriatrics! (At least that's what my **wonderful** son keeps telling me!)
Anyway--THIS cute little dude is Galen Kai, now 3 years old. He was not a happy camper when the pic was taken.

Thanks, Darla! That means sooo much to me.
I'm thinking that the Twitties would be a good place to live. (One of my sisters who once lived in the Twin Cities abbreviated the name to
TWIn ciTTIES.)
I just a call from the food-warehouse-department store and I'm to go in shortly to fill out the employment forms! I have told them I am looking for a job in my field--and they hired me anyway! AGE DOES HAVE ITS BENEFITS--like dependibility in the job market.
((SO THERE--QUIN!! ))

Thanks, Kristie!
I've put in applications/resumes here in Thunder Bay, in various places around the Twitties, in Wisconsin where I have family, in Edmonton, Alberta where my eldest son and his family will be stationed, and in and around Vancouver, British Columbia where my daughter and her family live. The next place I'll be doing a bunch of applying is Tucson, AZ, where one of my sisters lives and she said I could live rent-free at her place, since social workers with a BSW are paid on $11/hr.
SOMEWHERE there's gotta be THE job for me!!
Out west the demand is for Masters degrees. I'm thinking of going back to school--but I'm so burnt out I'd like to avoid school for a LONG time.

Thanks for your support, Kelly!
I've been hearing that 80% of jobs are gotten by word of mouth, and that the other 20% is from advertising. I guess I'm not associating with the right people.
I'm not giving up hope--er, faith--that God does indeed have THE job just waiting for me. I really would like one sooner than later!

Ok, sorry if this is rediculous, but are the "baby boomers" geriatric age yet, or is it too early? If it's too early, I imagine sometime in the not too distance future that field is going to be clammering for people like you to help out all the toothless wonders, and I'll bet you get at least 1 1/2 times the pay. I can't believe that's what they start at, it's nuts~! I do hope something comes your way soon.

The 'boomers' are definitely heading to the geriatric stage. I think sociology has labeled them the 'young old' seeing as they are ONLY 65ish--as opposed to the 'middle old' of those in their 70s. The 'old old' are those who are 85+, and this is the fastest growing age group--the old oldies!
You'd think that Tucson--the nervana for oldies--would know how to pay for the much-needed care. Maybe I'm getting that wrong. Probably the oldies are ones who CAN afford their medical care, and it's the hispanic middle- and lower-classes that can't afford the care in AZ. I'm probably looking for work in the wrong age and health sector.
