OT & long - the story behind the tat...

Thank you all SO VERY MUCH for your kind words about my new tattoo

I tried to find some version of the frog story that impacted me many years ago, but no such luck.  So I will explain in my own words.

When my dad was nearing the end of his life here on earth, my life was extremely stressful.  Mom couldn't drive, so in addition to working full time and having my OWN family to tend to, I had to take care of my folks' grocery shopping and all, and be her ride to and from the hospital when dad was in - typically 4-6 times a week, for a total of about 24 weeks over the last 2 years of his life.  (That included one stay that lasted 3 full months over the Holiday season - Nov. 8th through Feb. 11th.)  .  I didn't mind, I wanted to spend as much time as possible with him, not knowing when the end would come.

Anyway, I got one of those "annoying" forwarded emails.

It was a story about a woman dying in a hospital, who was visited by a beautiful lady doctor every night.  They shared a lot of stories about the dying woman's life, her faith, her fear of death.

After one such visit, the dying woman woke up and found a figurine of a frog sitting on the bedside table, and assumed it was from the lady doctor - because she had encouraged the woman to Fully Rely On God.  That no one knew how long they would have on earth, but if they let God carry the burden of knowing when their time would come, they could relax and try to make the most of the time they had.

The older woman asked one of the nurses for the beautiful lady doctor's name, because she wanted to thank her for the gift.   The nurse said there were no such doctors in that hospital - mostly men, and the few female doctors they had did not fit the woman's description of the doctor she had shared so many evenings with.

The story struck me, at a time in my life when I rarely knew which end was up, or how much more my family could or would put up with my constant running.  It was then that I started collecting frog figurines.  We lost my dad on New Year's Day, 2002, and I was so relieved that he didn't have to suffer any longer.

I don't have a HUGE number of frogs, I only buy those that for some reason catch my eye.  But I keep them all in my garden window above my kitchen sink, 'cuz I spend a pathetic number of hours there, washing dishes (you KNOW what I mean!).  So when I got the "itch" to get inked again, my inspiration was right in front of me!

There you have it.  The meaning behind my tat.  I love my froggie tat....

I love it when a story comes together.  Many people get tats for no reason other than maybe an impulse, dare, drunken stupor, or whatever.  When it's planned for such a long time and has deep meaning...I think that is the coolest thing.  I've had so many things happen to me lately that I'm thinking of getting something....just don't know what and I too want it to have meaning.

Way to be an inspiration girl....

My mother collects frogs for the same reason, Her collection started while she was being treated for cancer. All a good outcome in the end. She uses her frogs to remind others to fully rely on god. Very nice story.

I don't have a frog tatt. I do have one that caused a bit of chaos in my life for a while. My SO calls it my "Naughty" tatt LOL.. it is not that kind of naughty, it was the kind of naughty of not listening to what your told .roflmao

What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it. You (and the story) are very inspiring and also a reminder to what we ALL can endure / accomplish...usually when we least expect it. And then it's when we think we can't continue another minute on that path that inspiration shines it's little face. Thanks Darla. It's something that will give you a warm fuzzy everytime you look at it.

Heidi
