Ran into complications- undiagnosed hiatal hernia, and scar tissue; so I needed open procedure instead of lap. Making progress, slowly but surely. Hoping to get tube out of my nose tomorrow morning!

Sorry to hear you ran into something unexpected, that's tough. Will you have to be in longer because of the open surgery and/or the hernia? Congrats though on having your surgery and being on your way to better health!

Congrats on the surgery getting done. I'm sorry it turned out with a stinker right away but you will overcome and do just fine!! I've heard of others that had that darn hernia and didn't know it. Healing took a little more time but they are doing great.

Keep a positve attitude!!

Much as you hated to hear it, it's not a really big deal.  I had a hernia repair and unexpected appendectomy done, open, before Dr. Jones did my RNY lap.  So I say I got a three-fer!  I stayed in 3 nights instead of the standard 2, and I had planned to take 4 weeks off anyway (just 'cuz I had the PTO available), so things went really smoothly for me!   I was a crazy # of pounds UP at my first post-op appointment (due to IVs and getting most of my water in right off the bat), so that was depressing, but by the end of my first month I was down 32 from that!

So it's just  a bump in the road, hon.  You TOO are now a BIG LOSER!!!  Holler (pm me) if you need more reassurance.  You're gonna be FINE!!!

I was nervous when I had surgery that they would have to open me up instead of lap, but they didn't.  I am sorry that you had to wake up to that!  Big hugs.  It will take a little longer to heal, but you still have the same insides as all of us other RNYs!  Hang in there!
