I have a job intervew...
for a part-time job at a discount-food-warehouse-department store. It's certainly not what I'm ultimately hoping for, but right now I need something to pay the rent. The hours sound like they're all over the place--starting at 6AM and working 'til noon, some afternoons, some weekends. It'll be stocking shelves and changing the seasonal stuff, etc. The chick I talked with at the Job Fair was pretty sympathetic about my not being to lift over 30#s with my gimp arm, so this particular area of the store is an easy one.
This is the first job offer after all the apps I filled out.
I think the expression is 'Beggars can't be choosers!' But I AM grateful!
I never did hear back from the dude about an interview with the head-honcho at Extendicare in SLP. Maybe I should give him a call tomorrow?

Best of luck! Even a small job is better than no job at all.
If it were me I would call that other place and just find out where they are on the process of hiring for that position. Persistance sometimes pays, squeeky wheel gets the oil

HI Connie~
It was very humbling just to put in job applications at places that pay half of what I was earning when I was a courier--and maybe a third of what social workers earn. But if it gets me a job......a job at hand is worth a dozen rejections. It also helps pay the rent.
Bill do have to get paid even if I'm not working or getting an income. Quin is the designated bill payer. All of a sudden he's my job hunter! ((I told him when I get an income that I will reimburse him 50% of the bill he pays. He WILL contribute for rent, tho.))
He clipped the notice of the job fair and stuck it where I COULDN'T miss it, and is SOOOO happy that I have an interview. What a schmooie. Maybe he's worried that I WILL move away. Then he will be on his own.
Rather than repeat what I've already said in other posts--I'm hoping all this is part of God's plan! And I'll give the dude a call again on Monday, even though I left a message on his voice mail.
LOVE YOU!

I wish you all the best MOM.. It certainly cant be easy for you and I hope you hear back from Extended Care.. We would love to have you..
I am fighting with my dear DH right know about his job searching efforts and the fact that beggers cant be choosers.. He is being arrogant about his searching as he could have had a job 6 months ago driving truck as he is A Class/Hazmat certified and he says "I WILL NOT DRIVE A TRUCK AGAIN..." He is looking into 'contract' work that doesnt provide benefits...etc. Maybe its me but I wish he would go with something that is solid and stable. Just tired of the 2 jobs and pulling the load, when he could be working but is 'choosing to be picky.
Sorry if I rambled, I guess when I see deserving folks (you) that are trying diligently to find employment and it not going as planned, it breaks my heart. LOVE you LOTS.

Hi Dana~
This IS a pretty stressful time, even though I'm trying to put things in a positive perspective. (Read my other posts...about my car alternator dying, etc.)
I really am thankful for the chance to get a job, especially in a store that usually scrutinizes lifting capacity. ((My gimped arm is the reason WCB put me through university. When I was a courier I was run over by a kid on a bicycle and landed face first on the sidewalk. I tried breaking the fall by extending my arms. Both elbows were fractured, but the left one never healed right. I've had 3 surgeries, and the last one made my arm 'bionic' **Radial head replacement**. I can only lift 30# max, and for a short time.)) So the fact that the interviewer was willing right off the bat to put me in an 'easy' area is GOOD NEWS! More of God taking care of me??
I would imagine hubby's job hunting--or lack thereof--must be quite the bone of contention, especially with you carrying the major share of the load. My prayers that he will find a good job.
Thanks for your prayers and good thoughts, Dana. I hope that the job at Extendicare does come through. I think it'd be delightful to live closer to you guys!

Thanks, Tink!
My son--a newly minted adult whose birthday was July 18--has been designated billpayer 'til I get a job. He's to pay the phone, cable, electric, and long-distance carrier bills. I will pay the rent when I have the income. Well, all of a sudden HE'S my job hunter! 'Hey Ma--Zeller's is hiring! Hey Ma--Mickey D's is hiring!" and blah blah blah. ((He's so tight with HIS money the queen (on all Cdn money) cries from pressure points!)) But MY $ he's okay spending! Typical kid??!!
I DID call the guy about the Extendicare job, but his voice mail said he was out until Monday. Although I left a message, I will call him again Monday.
And in the meantime, my car's alternator is dying. I could not have driven all the Mpls without major problems happening. And low and behold, I got a cheque for a week's pay from WCB. Just enough to pay for the alternater. I'm so hoping that NOT hearing from the dude and getting an intervew app't for Friday was God's way of protecting me.. I hope...

HI Lori!~
I called the guy and got his voice mail. If I wanted to talk directly with him, I could've called him on his cell phone. Somehow that option didn't sit right with me, so I left a message, thanking him for the phone intervew opportunity and telling him I was really interested in the job. I WILL call him again Monday.
And maybe it was a good thing I didn't get an intervew with the director on Friday, as my car's alternater is dying. I had promised to help the folks from a nursing home with a field trip to the country--and I could not get my car to go over 60KM/HR (about 40 MPH) on the way out. My battery was totally dead when I wanted to leave--luckily I had my NEW booster cables with me--and on the way home I couldn't go over 50 KM/HR. I took my car directly to the mechanic--and I was right--alternater is pooping out. The mechanic is trying to get me a good deal, but I'm probably looking at $400. Which is exactly what I got on Friday from WCB--an unexpected bonus! So I'm praying that this will all work out.
