I'm scared to go to the Fair

I am going to the State Fair tomorrow with my entire family (mom and dad included).  I'm very apprehensive about the whole thing.  What if I eat something that comes back up, I don't want to be vomitting there, what if I end up in the bathroom all day, what if I don't take enough time between water and food, you know how it is, you see something you want to eat and you eat it, you don't wait a half an hour and go back....it's going to be a very interesting day.  I feel like I shouldn't eat anything all day and it would make me less nervous.  Any advice?

You could always bring your own snacks/food with you instead of eating the stuff at the fair.  I know the food always looks and smells inviting, but it really is better to be safe than sorry.  And don't forget to drink plenty of liquids! :)

I agree with Lois.  Bring your own snacks with you.  That way you know you can control wht you are eating and spend less money on the overpriced food at the fair.   Besides - most of the food at the fair is fried or full of sugars.  Who wants to get sick at the fair?

A little off topic about the fair.  But a clever thing I did a few years ago.  We created a scavenger hunt list.  Then our family split up and went to search for the items on the list.  Things such as free yard sticks, celebrity (local) auograph from someone on tv, a picture of someone with odd colored hair (be careful), etc.  It can keep you busy for hours and you dont have to spend a dime!

Good luck in any case.  And have fun!

Drink plenty of water so you don't get dehydrated and you'll stay full, just know where the bathrooms are.  Last year I was in your shoes and I was pleasantly surprised at the foods I found to eat.  There are fruit stands around the grounds and in the dairy building, they give out string cheese along with the evil shakes, so that was worth the wait.  I loved the pork chop on a stick....grilled not deep fried.  That was really enough food to keep me happy.  I did buy a ponto pup but after one bite, decided it wasn't all that good and tossed it.  All in all, I concentrated on having fun and seeing the exhibits and didn't let the fair be a food attraction only.

You'll do fine!!  Good luck and have fun!

All good advice - the way I've handled these things was to keep plenty of drink mix packets and a couple of protein bars in my fanny pack.  You can always find water - if you bring your own bottle in, most of the media stations offer free spring water - fill 'r up!

The pork chop is a good idea if you've tried them already, or a turkey leg, just do NOT try something you haven't yet tried post-op!  I believe you can get a hunk of cheese on a stick?  And if & when you DO eat something, find somewhere to sit down and pay attention while you eat!  CHEW LIKE THE DICKENS!   You don't want to dump on something new, or get stuck because you were too busy weaving through the crowds to remember to chew your food to applesauce consistency!

I think you'll be fine.  Just have a good time enjoying the NON-edible attractions!!!

Robyn.....

Everyone has already given you great suggestions. I too keep protein bars on hand wherever I go.

There will be plenty to do...don't focus on the food....focus on the events...be a people watcher....have fun!!

Thats kind of the reason I dont go to the fair... LOL  I love food and dont get sick on nearly anything..  I agree with the others..  bring your own snacks/meals

Otherwise try this mind set...  DONT by anything of your own.  Merely ask any of your family for a bite and chew till its mush.  You will get that taste you want and hopefully not get sick..

Robyn,

All good advice......The main thing is to stay hydrated......Drink plenty of water......

Bring your own food that you can store in a fanny pack, like Darla said, somekind of protein bar, etc. CL packets to add to your water.

Good luck and have fun......

Yeah, I am in the same boat you are.  I was just thinking today that it is going to be a very interesting year at the fair.  Everything has always been so food focused and this year will be so different.  I am actually looking forward to what I'll be able to "see" now that my focus won't be on food.

My family is going on the 29th and then my DH and I will go again on the 31st.  I am planning on bring a big bottle of water and crystal light packets and just keep filling it up.  I am packing food to bring with when the whole family goes.  I am planning on getting the pork chop on a stick and milk.  Other than that I am just going to drink, drink, drink and have fun "seeing" everything for the first time, KWIM.

I havent been to the fair since my surgery.  I realized how much of the fair centered around food for me and since food is no longer my focus, the fair is EH.

But I love all of the advice already given.  Those thoughts would work with any "outing" situation!
