Thought I'd introduce myself here. I'll be having Lap RNY next Wed at the U of M with Dr. Ikramuddin.

I was originally scheduled for the 13th, but needed to move back a week, due to minor changes in labs. I'm doing a liquid diet this week prior to surgery, and start the clear liquid prep on Monday. Any tips?

Congrats on the date! I didn't have to do the liquid diet, so unfortunately I have not tips for you. I'll be keeping you in my prayers though...not long and you'll be a 'Loser' too!!!

Welcome to the MN board & congratulations on your upcoming surgery!
Very exciting.

Keep your head in the game & stay focused on the goal. If you've been doing the LD all week, then kudos to you! You're more than half way there now.

Will someone be posting a surgery update for you?

Best wishes!

Tips.

Keep your eye on the prize.  If you forget what the prize is?  Look at any meds you're on, and picture most of them probably gone.  Look at before/after shots here.  Look at the circus tent panties and know they'll soon be a thing of the past.  Keep yourself MOTIVATED!

Keep the tv OFF.  You know, every time someone schedules WLS, the stations are all notified to play more fast food commercials during the LD phase.  It's cruel.

Keep coming here!  Try several different protein drinks.  Add chicken broth to take a nice break from the sweet crap!

And keep coming here!!!

I've had to stay away from the kitchen when the family makes supper and eats. It's just too darn hard and not fair to watch.

Keep lots of raw veggies on hand. I had pickles for a snack too, as well as the SF jello and SF popsicles.

Good Luck!
Becky

Becki - your surgery date has not occurred yet according to your info under your name at left, so I'm curious why you would recommend raw veggies and pickles for a new post op?

I may be misinformed but I thought that patients are usually on liquid or pureed diet after surgery.

Man, you had me worried there for a bit, but I reread the post and she asked for pre surgery tips.

I can't distinguish from her post if it's pre or post surgery tips she's looking for but even if it is pre, she's on a LD. No big deal, just wanted to make sure you weren't misinformed about what was ok on a LD and what wasn't. Veggies & pickles would definitely be out during the LD phase.
