2 month surgiversary update

Hi!  I know I keep everyone pretty much updated daily, but I wanted to recognize (and celebrate) that it's now been 2 months since my RNY.  In some ways it seems like the time has just flown by and in other ways it seems like it's been forever.

Anyway, here are the facts:
Weight at start of liquid diet:  465
Weight at surgery: 430
Current Weight: around 402 (fluctuates between 401 and 405 yet).
So, between 60-65 lbs. lost total (around 30 of them post-op)
So, post-op, I'm averaging about 15lbs. per month.  I was hoping for about 20 lbs. based on the experience of 1 male friend that didn't do a liquid diet post-op - if I was going to compare myself to others I probably should have picked more than 1 person.

Having gone through surgery at HCMC I have a very unrestricted diet.  I have tried almost all of the foods that I ate pre-surgery.  I do not eat sugar because I don't want to find out that I don't dump and I tried pop once and it tasted too bitter so I haven't desired to try it since (although I do have some in my fridge and my nutrition plan does allow for it).  I can eat different amounts of food depending on the food and how my pouch is feeling - I have absolutely learned that pouch rules, not me.  My typical day consists of string cheese and some unsweetened applesauce for lunch, a low-calorie microwavable meal for lunch (usually eat the whole thing), and pouchie almost always gives me trouble at dinner.  I usually eat 1-2 oz. meat and some veggies.  My pouch tolerates just about anything, but proteins (chicken, beef, and pork) have to be in *very* small portions.  I'm not supposed to snack according to the NUT, but I do per the surgeon and primary's approval when I feel stomach hunger. (making an effort to make the snacks more protein based).

The mental and emotional recovery continues to be a struggle for me.  I still have periods where I get very sad and angry about what I am going through and frustrated that I lack the patience to cope with the journey.  I do not regret having surgery, but I am not happy about it either most of the time.  As I was walking though yesterday I was listening to my mp3 player and one of the song lyrics I heard was, "Without faith, without hope, there can be no peace of mind."  I can honestly say, although I get frustrated because I lack patience, I do not lack faith or hope and I do believe that in a few months I will look back at this post and say that I am indeed happy and grateful for this experience!

I want to thank all of you for your support and your encouragement.  I would be lost without others like myself around.

Jen,

Keep your eye on the prize.........Your doing great.......We all struggle with the mental & emotional side to this.......Especially in the beginning because our hormones are going crazy......

Just think 60-65 pounds, How long would that of taken you without surgery? Your doing great.......Keep taking pictures, measurements......At times we don't loose weight but we loose inches.......

This is a great board for support, I think that's why we all succeed........There's always someone that can post and make you feel better or give advoce, it's great......

Continue following your Doctors plan and you will do just fine......Don't cheat or have those carbs, it makes it harder in the long run.....Words of experience......

Congrat's on your 2 months......

Congratulations on your success, both in terms of weight loss and in terms of how you seem to be handling things emotionally.  The emotional part is harder than I expected it to be.  Anyhow, I want to wish you continued success.

You are doing great, and coming here regularly shows your committment to being successful with your WLS!

HIGH FIVE!!!

Also, with regard to the friend you've been comparing yourself to?  Bad idea.  I'm pretty confident he was given a "male pouch".  Much more effective at rapid and significant weight loss.  It doesn't seem fair, but just keep doing the right thing by YOUR pouch, and YOU will be very successful, too!!!

Hi Jen...you are doing great!!

Just be careful of those carbs...protein really is the best...but then you already know that!!

You have a great attitude and you will do well. The head issues can be the hardest of all. Hang in there and keep positive!!

I am so glad you are coming to the board and sharing so openly with us. That is a good step in the right direction. Keep sharing....we care! We all learn from one another. We need this contannt support to keep us heading in the right direction.
This board keeps us honest...it sure has helped me. I probably wouldn't have done so well without all these great people on the MN board.

Have a wonderful day....hugs.....connie d

Happy 2 mo surgiversary, Jen.  You are doing great!  Try carrying around a 60-lb bag of groceries for a few minutes and you'll REALLY appreciate how much you've lost thus far.  I have absolutely NO idea how I carried those extra 140 pounds up the stairs last year!!!
