STARVING today

Hi :)
I  easily survived the day at my parents for my sons B-day dinner. Grilled burgers, fresh green  beans, corn on the cob, cake, ice cream...you get the picture.  It did really well. I spent my time keeping busy with cleaning up and keeping lemonade glasses full etc.

Then all of a sudden as we were leaving we decided to take the kids to the Lake Elmo Drive in..so, with having little time to prepare anything, except throw lawn chairs in the trunk, we just took off.

I totally lost it during the second movie, and as I think about it now-I don't think I was really that hungry, I think it was mostly mental.  I pigged out. UGHHHHHHHHH   5 perfect days on my liquid and down 2 pounds each day, then I pig out. I ate a pkg. of reeses peanut butter cups, about 2 cups of the popcorn my husband was eating, and about 1/4 bag of doritos.  Umm..yeah, you read that right.  * sniffle sniffle* And you know what?? None of it even tasted good. I remember thinking eating the doritos, a grilled chicken breast sandwich would be so good right now. I normal don't like " junk" food.  But that is what was there.
Today, instead of the scale most likely being 2 more down, it's up 4. So, actually a potential 6 pound difference.  I am so pissed at myself.

That's good - be pissed at yourself, then get over it.  Pick yourself up, brush yourself off, remember how crappy you felt for "blowing it", and reinforce your determination to do this right!  (It's a good thing that your LD is self-imposed, because going off course like that on a surgeon mandated LD could cost you your surgery.)

As for being 4 pounds up today?  I doubt it's entirely from your one night pigfest.  Probably fluid retention to a degree, but don't fixate on the scale NEARLY as much as you fixate on putting the right things in your body.  A person could drive themselves NUTS getting obsessed with the scale!

And as much as possible, avoid having those evil foods available.  Hard to do with a family, but you can at least provide yourself with healthy alternatives to their junk!  I sneak a protein bar into the theater when I go to a movie, and a bottle of Crystal Light (helps to have a rather large purse!).

Just don't dwell on being angry at yourself.  Use that emotion to benefit your efforts!  'cuz it's true, nothing DOES taste as good as being thin feels!!!

hi Natalie
I agree with everyone else that maybe you are not doing enough protien. Maybe the CIB or some prtien shakes may help with the hunger. Good luk with your surgery. I had Dr I almost 5 years ago and he will take good care of you. You picked a great surgeon.

Hi Natalie, thought I'd replied to your post yesterday, but don't see it.  First, please do not beat yourself up for getting off-track yesterday. Today's a new day: your chance to get back on the horse and ride.  Suggestion:  drink as much water as you can muster the next several days, as that will help flush out your system. When you're hungry and don't want to deviate from your liquid diet, try adding spices to your tomato soup:  Italian seasoning, or Basil and oregano, then think 'spaghetti.'   To chicken broth, add poultry seasoning, and think 'Thanksgiving dressing.'  I'm exactly two years out, and have learned to prepare proper choices, though modify them with appropriate spice powders to compensate for the pasta comfort foods overindulged pre-surgery.  Example, when craving something sweet, add lemon , or peppermint, or raspberry extract flavoring to vanilla CIB.  OR, add peppermint, or almond, or raspberry flavoring to chocolate CIB.  I sometimes add a titch of vanilla to even out the flavor.  Jello s/f gelatin is now available in a huge variety of flavors.  To this day, my faves are the strawberry-kiwi or black cherry.  When you're post-surgery and on full liquids, Yoplait light yogurt also is available in a huge variety of flavors.  Also Jello s/f pudding. Unsweetened applesauce with a little Splenda and cinnamon and/or nutmeg can taste like apple 'dessert'. I'd also had Gerber '2nd foods' on hand--never had the meats nor veggies, just the fruits and puddings during the second and third phases, Be gentle with yourself, keep focused on the big picture, and remember none of us is perfect!  Wishing you success today, just taking this one day at a time.  You'll be joining us on the loser's bench in no time, and we're all here to help, support you in this most amazing ride of your life!  Have a wonderful day!  Hugs, Patti
Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.
