STARVING today

I am on a liquid diet until a couple days before my surgery ( the 19th) , then it's clear liquids only. Right now, I am doing slim fast, soups ( tomato, chicken broth ) SF Jello.  I have done well the past 5 days, but for some reason, today I AM so hungry!
 Any tips?

The reason I am kind of freaking out is..we are going to my parents for dinner for my son' 18th birthday, and going there always means I will over eat.  It's strange how going back home makes me want to eat. Also seeing my best friend from childhood..makes me want to eat. Guess he and I were eating buddies.

anyway...I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of something I could eat or bring with to help me through the day.
I LOVE campbells tomato soup made with water. So, I am bringing some of that. ( plus, the dreaded b-day cake) * sigh*

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone.

Natalie, the goal of a liquid diet is to reduce the size of your liver which will allow your surgeon to have much less difficulty in performing your surgery.  I have a couple of suggestions...one is to make sure you are getting protein.  Tomato soup may be tasty but there is not nearly enough protein.  Getting in protein will help you be less hungary.  If you can pick yourself up some unflavored protein powder to add it to soup (make sure your soup is not super hot) it will help.  I liked adding protein (unjury unflavored) to V-8.

I was in a situation where I needed a lot of energy during my liquid...my nut said I could eat egg whites...they don't jeapordize the goal and they were a life saver for me.  I just boiled eggs, took the yokes out, sliced them up, put some seasoning on them and it really helped.  I don't know how strict you need to be, so take my advice with a grain of salt (and some cayanne pepper...numm)

Good luck...it will be over before you know it.

As far as the get togethers...either they will know your situation and support you,  know your situation and not support you, or not know your situation.    You could take the opportunity to explain to everyone the road you are on, or simply state you are on a very restritive diet on dr.s orders.

It's not easy...but remember, people will say things based on ignorance.  It's your life, you are taking control.  That is what matters.

Hi Natalie....I agree with Paul. You definately need more protein. Drink more shakes if you have too.
I myself think Boost High Protein shakes stay with me longer then the Slim Fast do. Remember Sugar Free popscicles and SF Jello can be a life saver too.
I wish you the best at the party, and always. Keep your eye on the prize!! Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!!

Natalie,

I am having surgery the day before you.  My surgeon does not require liquids until the day before surgery.  I know that they are all different in their requirements.  I have had to lose 20 lbs though and have really modified my food and lost 23 so far.

I wish I had some advice for your food.  I know that this is tough, but you are going to make it!  It is going to be so worth it being on the other side!

Hi Natalie,
It was so nice to meet you yesterday.
Sorry you are hungry, most people find the first two days the hardest then something kicks in and its easier.
Paul's advice was spot on....get in more protein...it will hold you longer.
Take this time to muster up a ton of determination.
Good luck and keep coming here for support.

I agree with the protein intake.  Try some of the Special K or South Beach Diet Protein drinks (tide-me-over, etc.)  You can freeze them and make your own popsicles out of them so it's chewing.

Okay..my bad. I should have said that this is self inflicted liquid diet HAHA.  Here's the story.....
My Dr. asked me to lose 15 lbs. As of 2 weeks ago, I was exactly down 15 pounds.  I am terrified of gaining weight back and kind of frustrated with myself, because I had really wanted to lose way more than that. I had plenty of time! But you probably know the story..." I will start tomorrow, that cheesecake really looks good TODAY" hehe
I have a hard time eating a balanced diet. The diets that worked ( ummm that I lost weight on ...DID NOT KEEP IT OFF OBVIOUSLY!) for me were more drastic ones . Optifast program, Atkins, only subway, plus a few oddball ones I created myself. * hey, maybe I will just eat turkey sandwiches and green beans for the next 3 months* for some reason, I can stay on those easier than say, doing weigh****chers.
Anyway... I want to make my required clear liquid diet beforehand easier. It took me quite a few tries to stick to this. I think I am on day 5 now--it's actually going pretty well! The hardest part is over for sure!  So for todays dinner at my mom's I have created myself a mini SF Jello extravanganza haha all cute and layered etc. * now just to keep it away from my dad-aka the jello king of central minnesota*  Guess I can share
I am doing an unjury shake before I leave, and bringing tomato soup with. I know I should be eating more protein, the tomato soup is kind of a mental thing I guess.
I am not sure why some Dr's require a longer liquid diet. I thought if I can lose a few more pounds before surgery to make his job easier, it like to do that. Plus, it will get my weight goal so much closer!

Thanks for your suggestions. I love this place

I have been on opti-fast for 2 weeks as of tomorrow. I was also allowed to have RAW veggies, brooth,sf jello and sf popcicles to take off that hunger edge. I must say I have not had a huge amount of hunger. I do have a few veggies at dinner time, that tides me over til the next eve. I have mamaged to take off approx 14 pounds. The last couple of days I have been walking around the house saying all i want is MEAT!  I must be wanting/needing more protein in me. I am getting in at least 70 g of protein from the shakes. Which is a good amount. Maybe it is just the oral fixation I need lol

This to shall pass!

Best wishes to all of you that are on the liquid diets.  They are a struggle, but the results are worth it.  I cheated a few times and as someone that did that - I suggest not doing it.  Your body adjusts to the liquid diet and you may likely end up with terrible intenstinal problems if you over indulge in food after your body has acclimated (at least I did).  It seemed worth it at the time, but it wasn't.
