I think I messed up my tool!

Hi eveyone.

I have a question. I had my surgery on July 18th. For 2 weeks after surgery it hurt really bad if I took sips of water that were to big. If I took a gulp of water it felt like all the water sat on top of my pouch and then slowly drained in a whirlpool fashion. (kind of like when you take a bath and then open the drain) I hope you guys get what I mean. Anyway it really hurt when too much water was going in the pouch all at once.  Now this week I can take a gulp of water if I want to!It no longer hurts. Should I be able to do this already?? Yesterday when I was watching TV, I almost drank a whole bottle of sugar-free, calorie-free lemonade. I couldn't believe it! This was not a 20 oz. bottle it was 1 Liter! How is this possible?? Did I stretch my pouch already! Someone help please! Is this normal?

This is totally and completely normal. Don't try and chug or gulp if you can help it, but it's not bad that you can.

Please spay and neuter your pets!

Your pouch was fresh out of surgery, OF COURSE it was having pain!  Chugging is never good, that's why you read "sip-sip-sip" all the time!  Easier on your pouch.  But I do NOT believe you have done any harm - your pouch is healing.  Liquid runs through it much easier, especially now that it's healing and the swelling has gone down.

Take a deep breath, remind yourself of the limits of your pouch and drink slowly enough so that you don't back things up and !!

You haven't hurt anything. You were just swollen before. It is best if you don't gulp....try to go slower. You get too much air when you gulp thus you get more gas pains!!  OUCH!!

Can someone chime in here, but didn't  Teri W. have this issue and it was because her surgeon's office forgot to tell her to take Zantac or Prilosec or something???
Could that also be a factor for this lady?

I don't recall Teri's situation, but I do believe most programs have you take some kind of antacid for at least a while following surgery.  But my guess would be it was more a matter of a swollen, healing pouch.  I was on some kind of antacid for the first month, but never really felt the need for it.  Just took it 'cuz they told me to.
