Am I really doing bad? (long)

Jen~((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))  You are doing a great job so far, and 28 pounds in 2 months is still 14 pounds a month, which I am assuming is better than any diet you have ever done prior to WLS.  I would suggest looking at some less traditional/well known sources of protien.  One source I have found to be very helpful is soy.  I know that Kashi makes an oatmeal that is not too bad with soy so it has 9 grams of protien in 1 packet, also there are soy nuts, edamame (soybeans still in the pod--you can find them in the freezer section with the veggies or at some restaurants like PF Changs on the appetizer menu), Boca Burger "hamburgers" or crubmles, or Gardenburger's riblets have a lot of protien and your tummy may like it better than real meat.  With regards to water, the formula I was given was 1 oz of water for every 2 pounds you weigh.  I know it sounds like a lot, and it does take some time to work up to it, but I would really concentrate on getting in as much fluid as possible.  Another idea would be to change up your exercise routine because our bodies can adapt to what we usually do and then burn less calories/fat, it can even be something as little as changing up the route you walk or if you walk on a treadmill adding in a few little inclines here and there.  I understand the frustration of not seeing the number on the scale go down and that is why mine is staying off!  I have noticed some little changes in the last couple of months, but nothing drastic.  Also this may just be time for your body to play catch up after a big shock of weightloss.  I hope tha this helps some and that you know that you are doing a great job, do not get disheartened!  Love & hugs!  Nicole

Jen,

I agree with everyone else here.  Please stop comparing yourself to others, throw away the scale and realize that your journey will be unique to you.  I especially agree with Darla that your body is in severe shock - it's fighting to hang on to every ounce of fat on you because it doesn't know when you're going to feed it next.  Also, (and I'm sure someone else has said this too) you are most likely moving your body weight around - meaning you're losing inches but it isn't showing up on the scale, not to mention that you're probably gaining some muscle if you've incorporated exercise into your new routine.  The old adage is that if you're not losing pounds you're losing inches.. I can'/t tell you how many people don't think this is true and then one day they are down two sizes - completely skipping a size.

Please just be patient - 8 weeks is nothing compared to the decades it took to put on the weight.  You're doing fine!

Good luck and I'll be patiently waiting to see your post that you've skipped a size!

Thanks much everyone!  I do need to dispose of my carby snacks.  I don't want to give up carbs completely, but I don't want them to be the easiest thing for me to reach for.  I want to save them as a "special treat" that I have every once in a while.  The scale will be leaving my house as soon as I weigh under 400lbs. or next weekend, whichever comes first.  I have been trying to increase my caloric intake through more protein and have been somewhat successful with it by incorporating more salads (with proteins like meat and cheese added to them) - it seems I can eat a LOT of salad because of the water content of the lettuce - it's a much better vehicle for getting in the protein than a cracker or piece of bread.  I have noticed that I'm losing a bit more weight as I've been able to increase my caloric intake from 600cal to 900 cal (in the last couple of weeks).  I keep trying to increase my water.  In the last week I've been pretty consistent with 2 liters of water a day (up from 1 1/2 liters) and next week I will push for 2 1/2 liters per day.  And I'm going to join a gym next week so that I can really up my exercise.

Hopefully all of these things will help me stay on the right track, but it's good to know that what I'm experiencing is normal.  I really was starting to think that I was broken.

You will speed up -- all your RNYers seem to lose kind of slower and then FAST, then a little slow, then FAST again.

My advice?

Take the scale, rent a shotgun.... go out back.
