Update on my Sonohysterogram
Kelly,
I was diagnosed as perimeopausal about 2 years ago (age 41). My mother didn't go through menopause until she was in her late 50s/early 60s, so it doesn't ALWAYS follow what your mother was. I asked her about my grandmothers, and both of them also went through menopause later than average, so don't know why I started so early. My sister, who is 9 years older than I hasn't started yet...kinda wierd, if you ask me. This diagnosis was pre-WLS, so my surgery didn't bring it on either. I do have a lot of issues with my period, and they have gotten worse since surgery, however. I have my yearly in mid August and will be talking to my doctor about options as well.
Just wanted to share with you that it isn't always caused by the surgery, but I do believe that it can have some impact on it.

At least you have a dr. that believes there is such a thing as perimenopausal. Every time I asked my previous obgyn she'd say...oh your too young and that was it (wait til your 50). After three 20 min. embarrassing lectures about my weight I quit going to her. I still don't know where I am with menopause.
I hope all your problems get worked out.

Hi 'ya Kelly, breathe, breathe, breathe. Sending healing vibes, thoughts and prayers for everything to be OK .Apprehension and fear can be worse than the actuality, as many know from WLS. Wish I could just snap my fingers, and have our screaming
DVD playing right on your screen this very moment! You'd literally be laughing your arse off! Had I known there'd be so much trouble sharing it, I certainly would've just bought two and handed you one. Hey, 'peri-menopause,'which 'can' begin in the thirties) is to menpause, what puberty is to periods----like our mothers told us, "it's just your body getting ready for the next natural step of motherhood" (had mine only known I wouldn't ever give birth, so when the actual occurrence appeared, take back the cake and celebratory gifts!?!!!) Also, a reminder, this peri, meno, and post meno is also like puberty--every woman goes through it! No exceptions. Ahhhh, hopefully putting this into perspective will help lessen the blow you're feeling about 'being old'! All in sincere love, girl friend! Oh, also, going through major surgery like our WLS can really shock the body--I didn't have periods for four months. Take care of you sweetie! Oceans of lu v
and hugs (oh, and screams!) galore, Patti

Never let your memories be greater than your dreams.

Patti,
Thanks.......It does make you feel "OLD" to hear those words, Perimenopausal.....GOD......
Ya, I should of bought the DVD........But the memory will always be with me......That was only the 2nd time I've been on rides since surgery, and the 1st was spinning rides.
These roller coasters were a blast........

Hey Kelly~
I just read an article in Canadaian Living magazine that said because MANY of today's girls are obese, they are reaching puberty earlier--like 10 or so. Conversely, they are also reaching perimenopause earlier.
(We all know that fat holds hormones--and when we lose the fat, our hormones go WONKY!)
Just thought you might NEED to know this tidbit of info....
