Update on my Sonohysterogram
Good afternoon everyone........
Well the good news is I have no Fibroids or Polops on my Uterus........
The bad news is my blood work came back......(I'm getting old.....) The reason I've been having long heavy periods is because I'm PERIMENOPAUSAL......(SP?) OMG.......I'm too young for this to be starting..........So with that said they are going to do an Ablation on my Uterus, so I'll either get very light to no periods at all after the procedure..........Just have to get the okay from insurance and were good to go........
I know 2 other women that after surgery have become perimenopausal & full blown menopause, Can this surgery cause it ?????? Is there anyone else out there that this has happened to after surgery?

That sounds like more of a drag than it probably will turn out to be, Kelly. I had all kinds of female issues for MANY years, but I DID have fibroids. BIG, UGLY fibroids. My OB tried everything to control my bleeding, including ablation, but nothing helped. I ended up having a hysterectomy when I was 40 - but they left my ovaries in place as they looked healthy, so I have not had any menopausal symptoms yet. (knock on wood)
All I'll say, and I know this is a rather touchy subject to some, is that prior to WLS, the hysterectomy was the BEST THING I ever put myself through! I would have preferred to have the ablation work as it was supposed to, but my fibroids were just too extensive.
So for YOU, my sweet YOUNG friend, I will send up a prayer that the ablation does what it's supposed to do for you! That you don't have fibroids can only be a plus!

Darla,
Wow, you must of had bad Fibroids........The Ablation didn't help......OMG.....
I'm waiting to hear from the gal that schedules the procedure, she checks on insurance coverage also.......If I go through this it better work........Sounds like it basically burns the inside of you? Do you remember if it hurt? She told me it feels like cramping for a few minutes.......

DUDE WARNING
My take on it was that they basically cauterize the inside of your uterus. My OB teased me about ignoring the smoke from where he was working! But he's good people. Kind of a hippy. I remember him wearing flip-flops when he came in to check on me post-op. (Surprised that was allowed!)
My fibroids were really bad. I had one "monthly" that lasted 8 solid months! And I'm not talking spotting, I'm talking about full blown nasty. Go home at lunch to shower and change clothes nasty. So I was THRILLED to get rid of the problem once and for all!
He said when they opened me up to do the hysterectomy, my uterus was SO big (how big was it?) - the surgical nurse MADE him run a blood test to check for pregnancy before they proceeded, because it looked like I was 4 to 5 months pregnant! (I had my tubes tied when Trav was delivered C-section, so he KNEW I wasn't pregnant! And you could not sustain a pregnancy bleeding like I did, either. But she STILL made him do it before she'd assist.)
I honestly don't remember any pain or discomfort following my ablation, tho. Could be I was just immune to pain by that time...

Sometimes being female sucks. I was 49 when I started what you're going through. I too was diagnosed as being perimenopausal. The route I took was to have the IUD called "Merena" installed. Best thing next to a hysterectomy! ((Should be called a HERSterectomy!)) After a few light spottings, I have NO spottings or bleeds or any such crud.
And the Merena is good for 5 years. ((Never needed it as birth control as my hubby has been dead for a LOOOOONG time and I'm as pure now as the driven snow!))
Does this help you at all??

Sue,
She gave me so many options, pills, which I said no to right away.....the ring, not interested in that....The IUD Mirenia and Ablation......So far I'm thinking the Ablation.......Only because I don't like foreign objects in my body.......But I will keep it as an option......
Thanks for sharing.....Kelly

Since surgery last June, I've only had 4 periods. I used to get them AT LEAST once a month - sometimes twice. But at my dr appt last week, I found out I've starting menopause - and I'm 47. My dr. said menopause is greatly influenced by the age your mother was when she went through it. But, since I'm adopted, I have no idea what age she was. Did your mom go through it early? One of my gfs had an ablation and said it was a bit uncomfortable for a day or two, but it was the best thing she'd ever done.
Lois,
It will be interesting to see how many people since surgery are going through menopause or perimenopause.......I really believe there is a connection.......
I think she was in her 40's, she also had Gastric Bypass.......
Thanks for sharing about your friend, I'm hoping it will work for me.....Crossing my fingers.....

Hi Kelly-here is my 2 cents-
I was perimenopausal at 37-and had my WLS at 46, and for 2 years everything was 'normal' - I think the estrogen boost from losing the fat actually reversed it for awhile. I became regular and stopped bleeding so heavy. Now, 3 years out, I skip then have the 2 week periods, and have begun to have fibroids. So, for me at least, the surgery did not cause perimenopause. Before surgery I was begging for a hysterectomy because of the pain and bleeding. I am almost at that point again. I have my yearly physical next week, and it is on my list of things to cover with the doc!! good luck with your procedure-most gals say it is the way to go.
