Hi Paula,

Good for you to be acknowleding that you're really struggling with your alcohol use.  It's very difficult to admit that something's gone too far and that some drastic changes need to be made.  I hope that you're able to access your current support system and get things back on track - but if you're not able to do that, don't beat yourself up about it.  Most people cannot get back on track without professional help once they reach the stage of chemical dependency.  I am an addictions counselor here in the Twin Cities and I know a lot about the different programs that are out there.  If you need any help or referral information (besides Hazelden which everyone knows about), please just PM me and I will tell you about some great OP programs.  If you haven't tried any programs yet and have stable housing with no active using in your environment (other than your own which you are quitting) you should at least have the opportunity to try an outpatient program without uprooting your life and your family by going directly to a residential program.

I wish you the best.  Hang in there - go to as many AA meetings as you can - it will help!

((((hugs))))  Thank you so much for sharing your struggles with us, Paula.  One of the biggest steps in addiction is admitting it!  I went through in-patient chemical dependency treatment about 20 years ago and the one thing I learned was to reach out for help.  If you ever need someone to talk to or anything, please feel free to PM me.  I can give you my phone # too.  Hang in there!  And like everyone says - take it one day at a time.

((((Paula))))

I'm so proud of you for being so brave in coming forward with your struggles. That is the first giant step in healing!

As someone who works in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program, I would highly recommend you at least get involved in AA meetings.  That will get you involved in a support network and give you tools not to want to go back and relapse into your old ways.  It will also keep you accountable not to go back.

I'm so glad you will be posting more often.  I've missed you and I will be praying that everythig is all just going uphill from here.  You WILL lose those 30 pounds and be that healthy Mom for your family.  I just know it.

(((Hugs)))
