UNITY HOSPITAL PATIENTS

I got to spend 2 nights in the hospital because my bladder just didn't want to wake up.  So I was very glad I brought a couple extra pairs of undies.  Also, I put on my own clothing after my shower.  Just ask and they will disconnect the IV for your shower and to allow you to change clothes if needed.  You want to get up and walk as soon as possible, and continue to get up and walk as often as possible.  i didn't have to be escorted after the first trip or 2, so I was up walking laps at various times through the day and night.  You won't be able to concentrate, so yeah, bring a mag or 2.  Ask for pain meds the very minute you feel like pain may be returning.  I had a terrible back ache, so I got a heating pad from the nurses to lay on the entire time I was htere.  It helped soo much.  Unity has special bariatric beds, that change air pressure and full body support whenever you move, so it can be a little noisy in teh beginning.  Very nice once you do get used to it, though.  The liquid you have to swallow for teh xray the next day is absolutely horrible.  I won't even sugar coat that.  They are very good, competent people at Unity.  Dr. Jeff is awesome!  Take some good walking shoes.  I had trouble walking in stocking feet, the floor is too hard and my feet slide in such a way that lead to blisters, so I was very glad to have my sneakers.  Take some hair conditioner with if you use it.  Other than that, relax and enjoy the ride.  Be vocal if you need or want something.  sleep when you want to sleep. don't forget to take your meds with.   A pharmacist will come up and meet with you to make sure you have them all, and to discuss how to take them.  I guess that's about all I have to add to the other's.  Good lucky and speedy recovery!
