OT: Nightly venting....
I am apartment searching and now that I've lived in at least 4 different places... I am getting picky about where I live (rightfully... if we are dishing out $1,200 per month for it!).
I was set on a place until I visited a apartment review website and read horrible things about the place: thin walls, bad management....
So now I am back to square one and trying to decide whether I should even care about the reviews. They are mostly all negative and I look at the ones for my previous apartments (which I really liked) and they were very harsh and rude comments....
So... now I am left with my choice... and then another... and now I found 3 more places to call tomorrow... so.... ergh. I just want to be done and settled with this. It takes so much dang time. And you really NEVER know what you are getting yourself into until you live there for a while.
With me luck..... and a few prayers, if you can. Thanks!
Bummer!!!! Home hunting can be a pain in the butt!!! If you really like the place, ask to go to the unit you will live in at a couple different times a day. Daytime, mid afternoon, later in evening. And just listen to what you hear. People who live there now probably aren't rating the place and who knows why the ones *****viewed really left. They may have been the noise problems and management got rid of them.....And ask to meet your neighbors -- they are probably apprehensive about who's moving in next door too....
With paying $1200 a month, have you considered buying a townhome? At $1200 a month that would convert to about a $200,000 mortgage and there are a ton of first time homeowner programs to help with the downpayment and very low interest loans. At least it's something to consider. I know Dakota County has a TON of programs, classes, etc. to get first time home owners into a home at the bare minimum of expense and downpayment.
Good luck.....
What is acceptable and comfortable for you is not necessarily what others are looking for. Judge for yourself. And trust your gut instinct. What's the worst that can happen? Might not like it and have to move again?
Remember that 90% of negative comments are likely the opinions of about 2% of people. Do what YOU feel is best. Its your money.
Good Luck!

On Craigslist go to apts/housing, there you will find apartments, condos, townhomes and homes for rent by either a management company or a personal owner.
Good luck to you in your seach!
