Question re: dizziness, passing out

I've been experiencing a lot of dizziness lately, especially when I stand up or when I'm already standing if I bend over.  Yesterday after church I went down.  I was fine.  I bent into my car to put something in the back seat and down I went.  I hit my head on the car, twisted my ankle and have a big old bruise on my foot now.  I didn't actually "faint", but I was going down and couldn't stop it from happening. I've increased my water by an extra 20 oz daily and have been getting in all my protein and vits.  I'm going to call the doc today and see what they say. Has anyone here experienced this before?  What was it for you? Thanks and have a great Monday, Debi

I have been having something very similar on occassion lately and my mom and sister told me it could be a couple of different things.  1.  Low blood pressure 2. Low blood sugar.  These were just the top two things that usually present this, but definitely go to the doctor today!  I hope you ankle and head are feeling better.

Debi, Ohhh ouch........Hope you get some answers from your Doctor..... Since yesterday I've been dizzy, don't know if it's dehyration or from my water ski fall. I looked in my book and with Dehydration you have dark color urine or strong odor, bad taste in your mouth, with nausea. I guess I don't have that. Dumping syndrome you can have nausea, vomiting, lightheaded, dizzy, hot flash, cramps, diarrhea. Let us know what you find out.  Kelly

Hi Sandie, I called my surgeon and they don't think it's wls related so I scheduled an appt for a check up for Wed with a doc in my pcp's office (I can't get in to see him until the 18th).  Funny thing is that the surgeon's office said it's been too long since I had my last blood work (January), and when I had gone in for my 6 month check up the PA refused to do blood work saying I didn't need it until my 12 month visit.  I told the nurse that is the reason I didn't have any 6month blood work and then she stammered and we moved on.  She said she wants me to have the pcp run the tests, so I guess I should have had them 2 months ago.  Sorry...I'm just a little mad at the surgeon's office right now.  I plan to call and leave him a message to complain about the quality of follow-up care his staff is providing (or not providing). How are YOU doing???? Debi

It could be Orthostatic hypotension, but I think that happens when you stand up suddenly.  I think getting in touch with the dr is the best idea.  take care

Hi Deb Although I have never passed out I have had the same issue. My doctor says that with the heat at this time of the year that it may be caused by all the swaeting from the heat and maybe not enough electrolytes in your drink. You might want to try a sports drink that has those and now they have some low calorie alteratives like Powerade Zero and Gatoraid G4. I don't particularly like tham but any drink with that will help. Best of luck to you and I wonder sometimes if it is the combination hot weather and the carbs that we intake.  The good thing is as soon as it cools of it seems to go away for me Jim

When that happens to me it's blood pressure... I take a lick of salt.  Not something I would prescribe for anyone but find out what the doc says...  And here's hoping it's something easily taken care of and you feel wonderful again! *hugs*
