Urgent Care yesterday resolved 'Big Foot' issue (long!)

It happened again:  Tuesday both my calves/ankles/feet swelled up, even with taking the one-daily  Lasix diuretic since the June 15-17 episode.  Last time I'd gained nine lbs, although with the Lasix, lost fourteen in five days!  All vitals, bloodwork, and EKG were normal.  However, just Monday there was a little swelling, though attributed it to being crazy-busy and not getting in enough water.  However, Tuesday the swelling had increased, though got in plenty of water, and two lengthy walks, plus elevated both feet overnight.  Man, they were swollen yesterday, even bigger (than last month's episode) and hurt so bad to even walk..  Called the nurse line at my clinic, and was told to go in right away.  Told them I have MS and don't drive, so would be lucky if I got a Metro Mob. ride by Wednesday.  Then was transferred to the Lake St. clinic, as I realized I could call MTC for bus routes. Ha!  The swelling kept increasing, and was suddenly getting throbbing pain in one thigh, then began radiating upward.   I didn't want to pay for high $$$$$ ambulance ride, so called ex-jerk who lives in my building.  He took me. to PN Urgent Care.  Got checked out immediately by a nurse-again vitals all normal.  Saw a really good doctor, to whom during assessment, I mentioned my computer had been down for  two days again, and had been up all night Monday and Tuesday after (ex-jerk) got it running.  Also filled in  the doc on what had transpired at the other PNC clinic on the 15th and with my regular doc the 17th, that I'll be taking the Lasix for thirteen months.  He asked how much I took--I said one with potassium every morning.  Wow, he told me I could take four to six a day!  He submitted a new prescription amount to cover that.  He also said this is idio (idiotic)! something edema.  He added it's very common in women over forty, with hormonal changes.  Also , had the bi-weekly psychologist appt in the morning, where I told her about the computer conking out for several days, then my being up all night two consecutive nights catching up on Emails and three OH boards.  We came up with a plan to get thirty minutes exercise in before I first log in.  Also, to set the timer for an hour, then go for a walk, elevate the feet for an hour, and only be online an hour at a time.  Yeay, after this episode, I expect all will be under control!  (I did surmise it to 52-yr-old hormones at the first PN office visit, so I was not surprised when the UC doc mentioned it).  Whew!!!  Already, the swelling has improved, and even both thighs are squishy rather than very swollen rigid.  Sorry so long, but wanted to provide complete information to potentially help gals be aware.  Oh, the doc said thyroid issues can cause this, though my complete bloodwork was online at PN, and mine had been normal.  End of novella......oh, got a long nap yesterday evening, then awoke and got online wiht appropriate breaks :)  Have a wonderful day ya'all!   Looking forward to SweetSues' Outback gathering tonight!!!  Hugs galore, Patti

Good grief, Patty! I am glad that the Dr. was able to give you a diagnosis.  I hope the pills are helping and that you will be back to normal soon.

OMG!  Is it "idiopathic edema"?  I've been suffering from that since FEBRUARY - literally will put on 20-25lbs overnight.  My hands, feet, belly and face (eyes too) swell.  I"m on 100mg of Lasix twice a day (plus potassium) - and we still haven't figured out a cause. Let me know if they ever figure out what specifically caused the swelling - I"ll let you know what i find out!! Megan
