I need your help!
The people on the MN board are the very best around and that's why I need your help! My high school friend, Gloria, had surgery yesterday in Wisconsin and she needs your support, words of advice, and encouragement. She doesn't have a computer and has to drive over an hour to get to the hospital, which doesn't have a good support system, so I'm asking that you gals and guys step up to the plate and help me boost her spirits! I'll copy off your comments and advice and send it to her in a card.
YOU ARE THE BEST!!!
Love ya!

Hey Gloria - WELCOME to the LOSER'S BENCH! (Although I PERSONALLY prefer to think of it as a WINNER'S bench!)
You are in for one heck of a ride - and no matter what you think or feel, IT'S TOTALLY NORMAL! Just trust me on that one - good, bad and ugly, IT'S ALL NORMAL!!!
As for what's in store for you? Just look at our beautiful Edi! Can you even STAND the difference in her pre vs. post-op? I never knew her pre-op, but I've seen photos - and DANG, is she a knock-out now!!!

Imperfect does not = unsuccessful

Ditto on the address - I'd love to send her a card.
For now:
Gloria,
Congratulations on making the very best decision of your life. The first few weeks and months are tough and you may find yourself wondering "What the heck did I just do?", but rest assured, in time you will learn that this really is the best thing you could have ever done for yourself. When you begin to see the benefits that this surgery has to offer - you will never again question why you had this surgery. Being able to run up a flight of stairs without getting winded, not having to worry about sitting in a chair with arms and wonder if you're going to fit or break off an arm, getting down on the floor to play with kids or to pet an animal without the fear of needing a forklift to get you back on your feet again, walking past a window, seeing the reflection and wondering who that fabulous looking person is. These and so many more reasons are the greatest WOW moments ever after this surgery. I pray that you have thousands of reasons why you love this surgery. One word of advice for you. If you haven't done so already, PLEASE take a picture of yourself right now (preferrably in front of a door so you can see more of the door as you shrink). You may hate seeing yourself in photos, but trust me - this will be the most important thing you do for yourself. There will be days, even after losing 100 pounds or more that you will still think of yourself as fat, but when you have a picture of yourself to compare the Before and After - it will remind you of just how far you've come. I hope we're able to meet some day so we can give you a big ol' MN hug. I'm very proud of you for taking this very big step - you've given yourself the greatest gift of all - a second chance at life!
Take care and love - Tracy
