Is it me or the solids?

I only started solids yesterday but it seems like everytime I go to eat I just don't feel well.  I get all dizzy and lightheaded and just can't eat.  Is it a headgame I'm playing because I'm afraid to eat the wrong thing?  For example, for breakfast I had a South beach high protein peanut butter breakfast bar, after a half an hour I had some milk.  I didn't eat anything else until lunchtime where I was going to just have some peanut butter on crackers but I got 2 in and I couldn't do it anymore.  I've been trying to get the water in also but I just can't eat.   Last night I was eating chicken and it was moist etc, I had no problem with it sticking or whatever but I just couldn't eat.  I got 2 or 3 bites in and then started getting the same feeling.  Is my pouch trying to tell to slow down or that it's full?  I am becoming an emotional basket case and this is not helping.

You DEFINITELY have to take it VERY SLOWLY when you start back on solid foods!  It's pretty hard, given the quantity of food you will eat, but you need to be absolutely sure to chew thoroughly, then chew some more.   Take time BETWEEN bites.  Take very SMALL bites.  Look at your thumb - right now, THAT is the approximate volume of food you will be able to eat!   Not much, is it?... Don't expect that you'll be able to eat a quantity of food that is remotely close to what you used to eat!  And those solid foods like chicken & such will fill you up a LOT quicker than slider foods like yogurt, cottage cheese, even peanut butter.  Just STOP when you feel satisfied - if you sigh, or hiccup, or your nose starts to run, those might be signs from your body, telling you it's had enough!  Respect that sign, once you figure out what yours is, and stop eating! Remember - the first 3 bites of something are where the most pleasure comes from -  after that, it's just shoveling.  Take your time to enjoy those 3 bites, THEN decide if you really need any more! There are all kinds of tips and tricks, I'm sure others will contribute theirs!

I couldn't do breakfast bars for a while -- too dense in the tummy and way too much -- one bar would be 3 meals.  Two crackers with peanut butter seems to be the right amount for just starting solids.  That's why the emphasize lots of protein first....so foods you eat now must be high in protein to get it all in.  As your quantities increase, you can lower the protein amount in what you eat and get in more and different foods. When you go to the next food level you ALWAYS have to go back to teaspoons and build back up to tablespoons and then into cup sizes.  I started by eating a chicken WING and was full and still had to do veg!!!! You HAVE TO identify your full signal.  Take 3 bites and stop.  Just listen to your body for 5 minutes.  It will either sigh (like when a kid's been crying for a while and they suck in air -- more subtle though), your nose may start to run, or you could have a little burb or hickup.  That's your signal.  If none of those happen, take 2 more bites and stop again for 5 minutes and watch for the signal.   Once you have identified the signal, EVERY time you eat, stop immediately when you get that signal.  You are done.  If you pu**** is will be uncomfortable.  Eating slowly will help you feel the signal at each meal.  Your quantities will increase with time.  i'm 9 months out I still only get a chicken leg and some veggies and I'm stuffed.  Breakfast is 1/2 a yogurt and 1/2 of a oatmeal pack.  Lunch is two beef sticks and a fruit cup. Good luck.....

Oh, Hon! I CAN relate!  Take it slow, don't worry about HOW much you get in food wise (some things are dense and fill you up faster).  Take it slow and justr get your water first and foremost, then protein ONLY as much as your new tummy can handle.  IT WILL GET EASIER!!! HUGS!

Your portion sizes sound typical to mine and I'm also making the transition.  The breakfast bar, like someone else posted, might be a bit large and dense and that might be filling you up for the rest of the day (and therefore contributing to the lack of hunger).  The 2 peanut butter crackers sounds about right - I can eat 3 crackers with RF Swiss, or a small piece of toast with 2 tbsp. peanut butter (although I usually throw some of that away).  As for meat, I can eat between 1- 1 1/2 oz. at a sitting - not sure how many bites that would be since I cut my meat very small and can make 1oz. into 15-20 bites. Just listen to your body.  If you're not hungry, then you're not hungry.  Like Barb said, I'm trying to find my signal.  I usually can feel the tightening in my chest, but everyone once in a while I burp.  Once I hiccuped.  I think my signal is going to be my chest tightening though.

How much sugar in that bar?  Dizzy and lightheaded are how I dump...  I don't get sick.  You may have compounded any amount of sugar with the sugar in the milk so soon afterwards. Just a thought. I have to agree with everyone else too!  SMALL amounts and SMALL bites... remember you are just testing things.  I was amazed that I could be full off a wing!  Who'd of thunk?!?!  lol  You'll get the hang of things..  just remember - SMALL!!! *hugs*
