Pre-op questions

Hey everybody-   I am having my surgery in about a week and a half.  I am trying to get all of my stuff together so I dont have to buy anything for awhile afterwards.  So I just have a few questions....

What brand/type of protein shake to you use?

What vitamins and amounts to you take?

Does anyone use the protein bullets?

What type of liquid foods should I have at the house for the first week or 2?

The day is creeping up so fast...

Thanks!!!!

Shelly~Welcome and congrats on the upcoming surgery!  My reccommendation would be to not go out and buy a whole lot of stuff pre-op because believe it or not your tastes will change.  Things you loved pre-op may make you sick afterwards or be too sweet or just plain not taste good.  What I used during the lclear liquid phase was broth, crystal ligh****er and watered down jello.  My mom had gone out and bought juice for me to have watered down, but even that was too sweet for me.  When you progress to full liquids my favs were the Dannon Light & Fit Carb Control vanilla yogurt.  It is really nummy and barely has any sugar in it, but is a good source of protien.  I also drank a lot of sugar free Carnation Instant Breakfast, but after surgery I had to switch to the Lactaid milk because I became lactose intolerant.  Your program should give you information about what vitamins and supplements they want you to take and when and since each program is different I am going to leave it at that.  I hope this helps some. ~Nicole

Shelly, I take the New Whey Protein bullets, 42g protein in 3oz. I drink it every morning now before I eat my egg & cheese.....My nurse wanted me to get in alot of protein for breakfast. I don't mind them, but some people can't stand them. I couldn't drink the protein shakes, it made me gag, these are so much easier, but a little pricey. $3.49 a tube at GNC. Good luck. and I agree with Nicole, don't buy too much stuff because you might not be able to handle it after surgery....... Good luck, Kelly

Hey Shelly, Congrats on your upcoming surgery! How exciting! It really is a life changing procedure, but so worth it. Here are a couple of the things I did just after surgery while on the clear liquids: Propel Fitness Water was what I lived for. It went down really well and helped me get in a few extra vitamins... Butterball Chicken Broth. For some reason I was only able to find it at Walgreens, but it tastes *wonderful* I kept that stuff in my diet for a long time. Sugar-free Jello, Kool-Aid and Crystal Light. When I was able to move up to full liquids, the Sugar Free Carnation Instant Breakfast became my best friend. I still drink 1-2 of those a day now, I can't believe how good they taste and how much they fill me up. Also yogurt (without fruit pieces) worked really well (check the label and make sure it is low in sugar - I made the mistake of not checking and upset my pouch a couple of times.) The #1 best food suggestion that I can give you though, once you're on to pureed foods, is actually baby food. I discovered that one on my own. The best one that went down was pureed bananas and berries. It probably sounds silly, but it really did taste good and helped me feel like I was eating real food again. Okay, so there are some of my suggestions. I hope it helps!

I'm selfish, impatient, and a little insecure. I make mistakes, I am out of control and at times hard to handle. But if you can't handle me at my worst, then you don't deserve my best.
