Coming Clean - long
I posted this to my profile this morning but I felt it was "raw" enough to share with all of you. I don't need a butt kicking (already did that myself) and I don't need encouragement. I just need you to keep praying because my appeal gets sent to BCBS tomorrow and I want to hear the words "You're approved" from them after this appeal! Thanks everyone. I adore each of you! xoxo - Amy
In January 2008, I was so focused on doing everything right before surgery and as the months went on, I felt I was doing pretty well. But this past month has just not been good. I have not been following my NUT's plan and I have gone back to carb laden meals, snacking, drinking caffeine, etc. And the worst part is I have no excuses. Sure, I could make up as many as I want, but why? It will not get me anywhere. So, I admitted getting off track to my sweet friend Linda Anne (who I met on OH btw) and she put me back on track. She helped me realize that my pre surgery eating habits will dictate what I will deal with after surgery, so I need to get back on track now before I get too out of hand. I really appreciate having a post op to talk to about this because I know she is speaking from experience.
So last night, I hung out with some DS surgery friends and found out how to eat like a post op DS'er. That was really, really helpful. It also helped that it was almost like a support group meeting because we sat and talked about surgery and living with your DS after surgery. They all answered my questions and eased my fears. I came away from there knowing that no matter what BCBS comes back with after my appeal, that I still know I've picked the right surgery for me and I will keep fighting.
This morning I woke up and my oldest son said "mom, I'll get dressed and you can make my breakfast". LMAO! He is typically not demanding so I just chuckled and said "well, what can I make for the King this morning?" His answer was bacon and eggs. I love this boy! He's loves protein and I just pray it continues so he never has the weight problems I've had. So he had his breakfast and I started my day off with a Cappucino Delight SlimFast shake and 3 all natural sausage links. So far so good!
I wrote out an index card for this week. It says "You're on a mission to save your life. Take it one meal at a time. No snacks. Your surgery day is coming."
I've got it up on my fridge and on my pantry door. I also have one in my purse so I can take it to work with me tomorrow.
Cutting the carbs again & cutting the caffeine back out! I can do this.
