Still having issues with medication

Its been nearly 5 months since surgery and I'm still having difficulties taking my antidepressant (Zoloft).  Right now its not so much swallowing its once it****s my stomach I get really nauseous.  Its the only thing I still have trouble taking.  Cutting it up makes it worse and I've tried taking it different times in the day or with some yogurt but it doesn't seem to work.  I have a dr. appt in a couple weeks (the soonest I could get in) but in the mean time I have the worst mood swings (especially when ever my poor husband opens his mouth to talk).  Has anyone had any medication that just doesn't agree with them after surgery?

I'm pretty lucky in that most of my medications that I have to take are going down OK.  I still have some periods of nausea and when they come on I chew a piece of sugar free peppermint gum (really strong flavored peppermint).  The nausea usually goes away within a couple of minutes and then I spit the gum out.  I've heard some doctors discourage gum chewing though and so they recommend peppermint tea (I just don't like tea).  Maybe you could try to take the Zoloft and plan a peppermint break around the time that it's going to hit your pouch.

I had a medication that made me feel yucky like that too and I tried taking it with milk and that seems to have done the trick for me. Good luck!

I'm so glad you posted this,  I thought I was the only one having this problem.  I was on Cymbalta for awhile and that was awful for making me feel nauseous.  I switched back to Effexor and it is better but I still feel yucky after taking my meds and vitamins.  I did mention it to my surgeon during my one year check-up but he didn't have any real suggestions.  Like I said though, it was better when I switched back to Effexor,  maybe you should explore trying a different medication than Zoloft.  Just a thought.  When I was on the Cymbalta, just the smell of opening the bottle used to make me sick.  Good luck and keep us posted.

You should talk to your nurse or doctor about this. I was told that our new tummy's only absorb so much of any time released meds. So we are not getting the full effects. I had some issues with my allergy meds and had to switch to something stronger. Good luck
