OT Pet News Update
The Dr called a litte after 8am with the blood work results and we are both just stunned! On May 14th I took Millie in for her shots, etc and had a Senior workup done. Her tests all came back with flying colors, they said she was healthy as a horse. So the end of May I had her teeth cleaned which she did just fine with. Then the other day it was like someone flipped a switch and we thought she was going to die. With such a sudden change we thought maybe she ate something that poisoned her. Well, that's not the case. The Dr told me this morning he couldn't believe he was looking at the same dog. He blood work results were unbelieveable compared to what they were. Bottom line, she has full blown diabetes, her level was 112 on May 14th and 489 yesterday. She has Pancreatitis (spell) and something is attacking her bone marrow and spleen, possibly cancer. I picked up another antibiotic for her today and started her on it, but I guess we have some hard decisions to make when I talk to hubby. I have no problem with the diabetes, they say she will need to be hospitalized on insulin IV twice a day to get it under control then shots twice a day for the rest of her life. But if she has cancer that changes things, and it will be a little over $300.00 for the ultrasound to determine that.

Well it's good to at least know what the problems are. Lets hope that they are ones that can be managed so that she can have a good life.
I can handle the diabetes it will cost alot in the beginning to stabilize her but the cancer is a real crappy thing.

Thanks, I hope I make the right decision. I am not superstitious but this has really been a Friday the 13th weekend for me on a couple of fronts. They say things come in 3's well I just got the 3rd thing so I hope we're done now and things will start to turn around and look up. The last 2 things didn't even have anything to do with the dog!

Me too, a month ago I was under the impression she was going to be around for a few more years, not just another 30 days.

Older dogs are like older people, every day is gift, but with surprises. I know alot of dogs who have diabetes and are doing well. Cancer is another story. I am praying that it isn't something that can be treated and that she can maintain a good quality of life. Sending you a big hug, because I know this is such a stressful time.
