Add dry heaves to the list of issues today

Man, what am I doing wrong.  Not only am I still in extreme pain but last night I was feeling very nausous(sp) and I ended up over the toilet dry heaving...I called the on call doctor who happened to be one of the WLS surgeons and he disagreed with my doctor who told me to take Vicoden for the pain, he thinks I should only be taking Liquid Tylenol at this point.  I'm so confused, I'm in pain and I'm scared. I know all the tests came back fine when I was in the ER and there is nothing to worry about surgery wise but something is wrong and I just want to know what it is.  I am scheduled to go back to the clinic on Friday and then leave for vacation on Monday, we are going to South Dakota and I don't want to be super far away if this is going to continue. I am so sorry you are going thru all of this. I know it is tough. I to had the dry heaves... and gas, and foamy's, and I came down with phamonia... but hang in there... IT DOES GET MUCH BETTER. I would be a little worried trying to go on vacation so soon after major surgrey. Be careful... I think I would get a little more agressive with your doctors. Good luck.

You can ask for some anti-nausea suppositories.  I had the dry heaves once and it was the most miserable I've ever been.  I now keep the suppositories on hand as it immediately gave me relief and I NEVER want to have that happen again. Paul

Being in some pain after surgery is to be expected, but you state you are in "extreme" pain.  That is not good.  You need to be a squeaky wheel and champion your own cause - YOU!  I was on liquid Tylenol after being home for just 2 days.  This has been nearly a month for you.  That is too long to be in that kind of pain.  Have you been checked for an infection?  This may be a little TMI, but, have you been checked for a blockage (are you having regular and consistent BM's?)?  I know that when you aren't getting relief in that area, you can get backed up and be in terrible pain, and it's especially difficult during the liquid and pureed phases to be regular.  Call the on call doc and see if he can give you any relief.  Then try to get in before Friday and be seen again.  With you in this much pain, going on vacation may not be the best idea right now.

Robyn.....have they done a scope on you?? I think there is something wrong. Debi could be right too. This could be an obstruction. Maybe a stricture.  Keep bugging them. I wouldn't go on a vacation feeling like this. You just had surgery and you haven't even healed yet.  Please go in sooner or go to ER if you need to. Keep us posted on how you are doing. Gentle hugs and prayers coming your way!! Hugs, connie d

I don't know how a stricture feels but I have already been to the ER, was admitted and was told they found nothing.  Dr. Pierce said all of the CT results, the blood tests etc were all normal, I would think he would have checked for a stricture.  Besides, the pain is nowhere near the incisions or the stomach, it's in the lower left abdomen.  The pain is most present when I am standing, sitting or walking.  It subsides when I am laying down, which is what I have been doing for two days (it's killing my kids).  I will try calling the clinic in the AM and see if they have any other suggestions.  Thanks for the support and thoughts, I appreciate them! I've been having some diarheaa but still having BM's I guess.  No problem with peeing either.  What does a stricture feel like?

The Vicodan could be causing the nausea. A lot of people have reactions to Vicodan like that. For me it depends on the day if I get sick from it or not. Hopfully that's what it was and now that you aren't taking it, the nausea will go away. If you still need to take the Vicodan, try the smallest dose first, and don't take it on an empty stomach. Good luck
