Officially off the CPAP
So, I haven't used my CPAP since I was about 6 months out-but never scheduled a follow up with the sleep doc to make sure. Well, I work with her now, so she sent me home with the night oximeter to check if I am still having apnea episodes, and ....... I am NOT! so I am officially done with the CPAP machine, and won't have to use it ever again.
Just a note for those of you who are newly out-DO follow up with your sleep doctor 6 months to a year after surgery-not everyone can throw away their CPAP, and it would be foolish to assume it is just related to your weight-I see a lot of people here in the clinic with severe apnea that have never been overweight-it is a complex problem that SOMETIMES is resolved entirely by weight loss, but not always. I was diagnosed with a very mild case of apnea, which the doctor told me was because of the excess fatty tissue in my neck and nasal passages. Everyone is different, so please don't assume-I could have really put myself in danger by just stopping the CPAP and not checking with the doc (believe me, I got told about not using it!!)
but I AM OFF!! whooo-hoo!
LynnK
Congrats!
But now that you are officially off your leash how do we keep you from roaming at night?

WHOOO HOOOO for you!!! Happy to hear you are CPAP free. But be careful with those Ambien's you are taking!!! They can have some very bad side affects after you've taken them for a while!!!!
A note to everyone that they should all get retested after surgery. There is only one way to document that WLS continues to cure other things -- that is to get it documented. So if you had bad sleep apnea before surgery, and no apnea one year after surgery, that speaks volumes on the cure rate for the surgery.
XXOO -- See you at BV coffee on Saturday -- Linda, Troy and I will have on our new PLS t-shirts!!!
Marching off to bed now......
CONGRATULATIONS, LYNN!!! That is fantastic news!
I had to do the sleep-study pre-op, and was diagnosed with an extremely mild case of apnea - so mild, the doc didn't put me on the machine. (I still think it was more the feeling like a science experiment that made it hard to sleep.. that home oximeter would be a WAY better means of evaluating a person's sleep!)
That having been said, I DO sleep MUCH better now that much of the weight has come off! I stopped snoring within 2 weeks of my surgery, according to my hubby. And at some unidentified point in time, I started sleeping on my BACK! I have NEVER IN MY LIFE been a back sleeper! But now, as long as I have a pillow under my bad knee, I can sleep nearly the whole night on my back - I don't exactly know why, but I LOVE that!!!
