A few of the folks at Jodi's asked for the recipe, so here it is - 8 oz bacon, cut into small pieces 1 pound lean ground beef 1 cup chopped onion 1/2 cup brown sugar (splenda) 1 T dry mustard ( I don't have this, so I used Grey Poupon) 1 can pork & beans 1 can lima beans, drained 1 can butter beans, drained 1 can kidney beans, drained 1/2 cup ketchup 1 tsp salt 1 T vinegar Brown the bacon, ground beef and onions.  Combine drained ground beef mixture (I rinse in ho****er) in a slow cooker with the remaining ingredients.  Cover and cook on low for 3 to 5 hours. I don't have the nut. info on this, but it's got to have a pretty good protein content, and it's just plain YUMMY!!!

Thanks Darla!  I had these a long time ago, before WLS and I loved them back then.  I never thought to use splenda brown sugar.  I'm going to make these this weekend too!

Thanks again!!

Thank you Darla!  My aunt always refused to share her recipe since it was what she always brought to family functions.  Now that I know the recipe I can make them any time!  WoooHooo!  ~Nicole

Well, I did 'em up in my bigger oval slow cooker, and it was only 1/2 full - so I'd guess maybe @ 8-10 cups?  Just an eyeball estimate there...   I happen to know they freeze well, so you could maybe double the recipe, and if you have any left, you could pop the leftovers in the freezer?   Uh.... your party, it's outside, right?

I LOVE these - thanks!  Someone always brings them to family get-togethers.  These have lots of protein, too!  Dana, you could do these in a crockpot.  Maybe even double it if you have a large one.

This recipe sounds very yummy.  I've had stuff like this before and I'm glad to hear that it is something that I can enjoy post-op.  I did some nutritional calculating and I put it into terms for people who have not had WLS.  So, if you assume that the entire recipe has 10 servings (just easier to do the math)  you would have 322 cal per serving, 6g fat, 7g fiber, 19.5g protein.  You can adjust as you'd like to fit the nutritional information to your needs.

Hello Darla,   Those beans are so awesome. I make them too. The only thing I do different is that I use turkey bacon and ground turkey because it is leaner. It sure has been awhile since I have seen you. I hope things are going well for you and your family. I sure did like the pic's you posted from Jodi's BBQ. Bailey looked great and so did you. You are shrinking....will I even recognize you anymore?? Hugs, connie d
