No more glasses!
I had an appointment with the optomitrist this afternoon and I have CONTACTS! I am so excited! Because my eyes are different though I have two different brands, one is to correct the astigmatism in my right eye and the other is just to corrrect nearsightedness in my left eye as the astigmatism in that eye is so slight there is not a contact weak enough to correct it. I amazed the doctor by getting them in on my first try, however tonight when I went to take them out it was a whole other story. The right contact did not want to come out. But, I kept trying and after I moved it over off othe middle of my eye it was a bit easier to get a hold of and get out. For the next 3 days I can only wear them during the day, but after that I can sleep in them and I will not have to worry about taking them out except to clean them every so often. I am so excited that I no longer have to hide behind my glasses and can also now enjoy wearing sun glasses! ~Nicole
It is GREAT to be able to wear "cheapo" sunglasses! I've been in contacts for probably 30 years, and LOVE 'EM!
Be sure to check with your Opt. tho, about sleeping in them. I abused my contacts years ago by wearing them 24-7 for RIDICULOUS amounts of time, and almost mucked up my eyeballs! I know the technology is way better than it was then, but even in extended wear, it's typically a better idea to take them out nightly. Less build up in the contacts themselves, better oxygenation for your eyeballs!
CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's a HUGE step!! You are doing such an amazing job - not just with the whole WLS thing, but with your whole LIFE!!!
YAY NICOLE!!!
Imperfect does not = unsuccessful
Thank you! I specifically asked for contacts that I can sleep in so after the first 3 days when I have to take them out at night I am good to sleep in them. I am going to check though to see how often I should take them out to clean them after I am okay to sleep in them. The type I got are made out of hydrogenated silicone so they allow your eyes to breathe! Trust me I learned 15 yeaars ago when I had them that sleeping in them is a big no, no.
Glad it worked out for you -- you were so hoping when you left yesterday that you'd be able to wear them. I'm sooooo jealous -- I can't wear them because of my Grave's disease, nor can I have the laser thingy. But as Edi said, my glasses are just another accessory like jewelry.
WHOOOO HOOOO for you!!! Can't wait for a picture!!! Now the new pictures I took yesterday are already outdated!!!!
Congrats on the contacts!! I wore them for about 19 years. I had LASIK about 18 months ago. Best thing since the contacts!!! I was very meticulous about my contacts. Taking them out every night, cleaning them etc. But then I was 14 when I got them and the eye doc and my parents scared the heck out of me so I had to be good. I had one that corrected the astigmatism too. I found mine at 1800contacts on line and got them cheaper than at the eye doc office.
Congrats!!

Thanks! I was just looking at them on their website last night and I think that is where I am going to order mine as well. I am hoping to get lasik in a couple of years since this is the first year in a long time that my eyes really haven't changed. My sister had it earlier this year and said that it is so wonerful not having to mess with contacts or glasses anymore. ~Nicole
Yay Nicole! I am so happy for you! You are just changing by leaps and bounds GF! I've only known you a short period of time - just since the end of March at the lodge and you were so quiet and shy (you still are, but just not as much now), now you are more outgoing, adventurous, confident! You are one amazing woman and you will make an awesome counselor!
