i know everyone is differen't but i am just wondering how you were after an egd. i got a paper saying that i won't be able to drive for 24 hours.. is it really that bad? how long was it before you were back to normal? thanks!

I have not had one done, but from what I know I would say that the restriction on driving is more related to the sedative they give you more than the procedure itself.  If I am wrong about this please feel free to correct me.  ~Nicole

The instructions for you to not drive are because they give you two drugs during the procedure. Commonly they are Versed and Fentanyl. One is a pain reliver and the other is a sedative. They can affect you for up to 24 hours after you receive them, even if you feel like you are OK. I always tell my patients that it is the same as driving drunk. If something happens, it is as good as a DUI. Hope this helps!! I have seen EGDs done, although have never had one, and it seems like the patients do really well after. They are just typically a little groggy!
