nicolelynn.....question on bone density and goal weight test
HI nicolelynn,
not so very long ago you posted about a test you had done that made you change what your goal weight was set at. Can you refresh my memory, becasue it has come up on the BMI over 50 board. I knew you had it done and someone else is wondering about how to set their goal weight after being SMO. I thought of this test right away as possibly being a good solution to the problem. WEll the problem being setting a goal that is impossible to reach.
Thanks.
Jennifer
Good Morning Jennifer! Yes the test I had done is called a Biometric Impedence Analysis or BIA and it will give you a reading that will tell you how much of your weight is lean body mass (i.e. bones, organs, blood, muscle) and how much is fat. According to my sister many fittness centers/gyms should have it and personal trainers should be able to administer it. Just make sure it is done in a quiet room with dim lights as the machines can be sensative. Another good method is a dunk tank and there is a professor here at University of St. Thomas that does them for a reasonable price the dunk tank would be the most accurate way to figure out this information, but may be a bit more difficult to get to. Hope this helps! Having started out with a BMI over 50 myself I can relate to needing to be able to set a realistic goal.
