Hi Elena, I used Curves for about 2 years post-op.  I liked it - I felt comfortable there and was pretty faithful about going.  I've been a lazy dog ever since....but that's another story.  I'd give it a try if I were you.  It was convenient for me and was effective I thought.

I tried it a few years ago. I didn't care too much for the one by my house. Just wasn't the right atmosphere for me. I have known plenty of people who have liked it though. How are you feeling?

Hey Elena,

I have been a member of Curves twice. I joined the one in Hopkins about 2 months ago and I love it. I love the comfortable non-intimidating environment. They have this new thing called the smart system which tailors your work out to you.

Are you in Wayzata? The same Mom/daughter team that own the Hopkins curves own the Wayzata one too. They are awesome and great motivators too. One of them has been through WLS too, so she really understands us.

You can always go into one and they will let you try a week for free. Tammy and Bobbi (owners) are usually there during the day.

Someone on the board awhile back said they gave up on Curves because there wasn't enough variation on the circuit once you had done it awhile.  They ended up going somewhere else to have more options and work out other areas of the body.

Elena,
I joined Curves a couple of months after I had surgery - so about 1-1/2 years ago. I've gotten to know the other women who go at the same time I go, and it's fun to talk and work out at the same time. I think it's really helped, although my skinny sister thinks I should find something that makes me sweat now, if I really want to get toned. She may be right, but I've gotten into the habit of going to Curves now, so at least, I know I'll go. I think it's a great place to start out. Jean B.

Hey Girly-  I have been a member of Curves a few times.  My biggest complaint is that they make it hard to get out of their contract...at least I had issues each time.  I would go for a few months, and then move...and end up still paying every month for the rest of the year.  They would always tell me it was easy to cancel anytime when I started...but then I always had problems when it was time.  So yeah, I wasted alot of money.   I really like how comfortable it felt to work out there though.  I prefer working out at the YMCA, because they have so many different programs and classes.  Curves would tend to get boring to me after awhile and I would dread going...then stop going.  The YMCA has alot of different body types and I feel comfortable there. I think whatever you choose is a good choice, because the most important thing is to get started and get moving.  Good luck!

1st goal-  Get back to my pre-pregnancy weight!

Hi Elena,  I have joined the Hopkins Curves over and over; currently not a member but I loved it. I never had any problems with Bobbi and Tammy not wanting to cancel the contract; they just ask for a one month notice. The Hopkins Curves is the only one I've been to that I really liked. Very casual and fun.  See you Sat.

I have been going to Curves for two months now and I really think that it is a great startign poiint for me.  I cannot imaine myself going into a YMCA at my weight.  Here I feel comfortable and the people are really supportive and friendly.  I have seen success shile I have been getting ready for my surgery.  I have lost ten pounds and ten inches, so I really do think it works.  You get out of it what you put in. Hope the feedback helps.  Good Luck! Jennifer
