Frustrated

Since surgery I have been off my blood pressure medication and my blood pressure has been around 118/60 which is very good for me.   Well yesterday I went to a dr. appointment and my blood pressure was 146/116!!!!   I felt so disappointed like I'm doing something wrong.  The dr. thinks it was my birth control pills so she took me off of them but last month when my numbers were normal I was on the pill so why all of a sudden does it  sky rocket up?  I'm trying to figure out if maybe I'm eating too much salt or any other reason it could have gone up so high.

Kathy, I'm not sure why it would happen, but don't get down on yourself.......How long have you been on the pill? I know they can raise your BP...... Do you go back in a month for a BP check? Maybe check your BP yourself on & off and see where it's at. If your eating healthy that shouldn't have anything to do with it. If you think you may be having too much salt then cut back a little. I bet it is the pill though....... Kelly

Could be salt, could be nerves or stress (were you anxious about anything when that reading was taken?)... Just keep an eye on it the best you can.  I use those free machines at Target and Walgreens when I'm around one to check mine, and most clinics will take your BP without a co-pay, just as a drop-in thing whenever you want.   Don't let yourself get too worried about it unless it's apparently becoming a "normal" thing for you to have high readings.

I am sorry that you are having issues with your BP, do you know if yours is genetic at all?  I know my mom struggles with her BP and no matter how little salt or how good she eats and exercises she can't seem to keep hers in check all of the time so she has finally decided to listen to her pcp and go on meds.  If you want to cut out a lot of salt from your diet a good product substitution in Bragg's Liquid Amino Acids.  It tastes a lot like soy sauce without the soy or salt and is really good for you.  I do hope you are able to figure this out.  I also agree with Darla in looking at the level of stress/anxiety you may have had around the time it was taken.  ~Nicole

Thanks I'm feeling better about the whole thing right now.   I'm just going to monitor it for now if I start to see that its not getting better in the next week or so I'll go back to my PCP.  My dad actually died at the age of 41 from a heart attack and my Grandma ( on my mom's side) had one at the age of 50 (she luckily survived) so it probably is genetic.

That sounds like a good plan.  I do hope you are able to find some way to get it back under control.
