Anyone had low blood count since surgery?
I have been catching virus after virus for months now.......I just saw my family Doctor again yesterday, as I'm sick again.......He said I have no immune system left......Took my blood to check my blood count and it was low, lower than low, it was a 3, I think he said normal is 4-11?
So yet again he put me on a liquid antibiotic for 2 weeks and liquid Zyrtec. After that he will re check my blood count and if it's still low he wants to send me to a Hemotologist.
Has anyone else had this happen to them since surgery?
Kelly
Hi Kelly,
I don't know if this will help the blood count but:
My girlfriend told me that she took probiotics all winter and never had a cold. I thought probiotics balanced out your stomach but when I asked at the co-op they said that it builds your immune system also. So I started taking it a couple of months ago. My son had a cold, then my daughter, then my husband. I never got the cold. I purchased something called Pearls. They're a tiny little round capsule. My PNP said it was ok to take.
When we use antibiotics our bodies don't fight, it lets the drug do the work. You should take a probiotic or yogurt when your on antibiotics to help your immune system build.

Like Loril, I had the p. anemia and ended up receiving 3 units of blood (hospital admit). I was experiencing loss of balance, falling extremely easy, as well as concentration problems and several other physical symptoms. Because of the balance and concentration issues I was refered to a neurologist. He had xrays and blood work done. Turned out my hemoglobin was at 3 like yours. Seeing the hemotoligist is probably the best way to go. Keep me advised of anything that will boost immune systems as I have to go in every 3 months to make sure I am still in the okay range.

One more thing on the probiotics, make sure you don't take them at the same time as the antibiotic. The antibiotic will kill off the probiotic, so take them a few hours apart.
It really bothers me that more doctors don't tell their patients - especially wls patients - about taking probiotics when they are on antibiotics. A lot of times antibiotics kill all the good bacteria that you need as part of your digestion in your intestines. That's why you need the probiotics to put them back!

ETA: Probiotics are going to be called acidophilus bifidus. The one recommended above is acidophilus Pearls. You can buy them over the counter at any drug store.
