how soon before you could sleep on your side?

I'm having a helluva time sleeping!  I've even started taking pain meds to put me to sleep and guess what?  It worked last night but you see where I am now?  I just took another dose which is bound to help

but

I have a massive crick in my neck and seriously?  That is why I take the pain meds, not for pain from my DS

I think if I could go back to my side sleeping, my neck would improve as would my sleeping....

thanks in advance

You poor thing...!  I remember oh so well and tried so hard to find ways to get comfy. I slept on my side just fine. I layed in bed, propped pillows up behind me and under my belly and was able to get some good sleep.  Do you have a binder?  Those tend to help you feel a little more secure and not like your guts are falling out.. I wish you all the best on getting comfy..

I slept in a recliner for about 2 weeks.  I can only sleep comfortably on my side so I was miserable, but the recliner helped.

I think it was a good few weeks before it was comfortable to sleep on my side and I am a side sleeper so it was hard ...basically I propped myself up with some pillows and just toughed it out, so to speak.  I had A LOT of pain issues with my incision so was taking my pain meds regularly and had a dose at bedtime which helped.  if you aren't having great pain, maybe something like Tylenol PM would help?  Dr Buchwald or Donna the NP at the clinic would be able to suggest something if you aren't comfortable taking the pain meds to get you to sleep but need something for sleep and the neck pain. good luck!

Hey sweetie - I had both open AND lap in the same day, so yeah, I had a few issues.  But the right pillow tucked under my belly, which was securely snugged up in my binder, got me through.  And I had roxicet - I didn't take it for pain, I just took a half dose before bed to help me sleep.  Roxicet was my friend! If sitting up and/or rolling over is a drag, the thing I did to help was to make SURE my sheet/blanket were FIRMLY tucked into the foot of the bed.  Then I'd literally use a handful of sheet/blanket to pull myself up into a sitting position, and to help lower myself back down, until my muscles were up to the job. Good luck, Peach hon - it WILL get better, and before ya know it, you'll be looking for smaller drawers for your bottom half!!!

I too am a side sleeper, the stay at the hospital drove me nuts!! AS soon as I got home I tried to lay with my body pillow under my side. That helped a lot and I also would lay on the couch with a small pillow under my belly for extra support so I was comfortable.  I also was still on pain meds when I came home and took them more at bedtime than any other time. I hope that helps!! It will get better as you get stronger and heal
