Nutrition Prgram--New Food!
I learned so much at the nutrition prgram and am so glad that I decided to participate in it! One of the best things I have learned is a new type of food called quinoa (pronounced keen-waa). It looks like a grain so I was confused when I first saw it today, but after learning about I learned that is does not expand in your tummy (all expansion is done after it is cooked) and 1/2 a cup has 8 grams of protien! We had it like hot cereal this morning with a bit of almond butter on top and it was very tasty...kind of like malt-o-meal. Then at lunch we had a different form of it in a tabouli salad (middle eastern salad with tomatoes, cucumbers, mint and I can't remember what else) and that was super yummy too! Most of the day today we looked at what foods could be beneficial to us and which ones could deplete our energy. We will be starting a 2 week cleansing diet on Monday and then we will be able to test different foods to see how we react to them. The people are really great they have tons of information the promise has been made that after the cleansing diet we will no longer crave the foods that are not good for us (aka sugar, simple carbs). The yoga workouts totally kicked my booty today since they were both more advanced classes. The first class was called Sculpt and combined yoga and weight lifting as well as some plain old cardio (jumping jacks, push ups). I felt really nauseous and like I was going to faint about 10 minutes after class and am wondering if my blood sugars dropped since I only had a small breakfast before the class. The second class was a more advanced version of the class I normally do. We have adjusters working with us during the yoga part the adjuster I had for this round really worked me hard pushing my body into the poses deeper and in different ways that I had ever experienced. I am home now and should start packing up some of the stuff I have put off, but at the same time I feel like just chilling out, so I am not sure what I will do. I hope everyone had a great Saturday!
Who do you do the nut program through?
Thank you Lori! I had seen the quinoa in the bulk section of my co-op before and have seen a few recipies, but like you I had never tried it until this weekend. I suggest mixing in some berries to sweeten it or top it with some nut butter (we used almond butter). Today was a bit more difficult yoga wise as I was pretty sore from yesterday and then I was in a packing frenzy last night , but I survived! I will post more about the program Tuesday as I am moving tomorrow (my mom and I took over a load this evening to get a head start). Love & Hugs! Nicole
